Damon Wants a Girlfriend! Damon Wants a Girlfriend!
Is Damon Salvatore capable of love with a (gulp!)…. human being?
According to Vampire Diaries producer Julie Plec, the answer is yes. Slowly. Eventually. She recently told Entertainment Weekly:

“We’ll see Damon start to look at Elena as more than just his brother’s girlfriend or the doppelganger to the love of his life. He’ll start to love and understand her as a human being, which is ironic because Damon could typically give a s–t about anything involving humanity. It’s some good stuff.”
Are you looking forward to the US debut of Doctor Who?
I’ve been wondering if Damon has feelings for Elena, especially now that he knows Katherine never cared for him. What do you think? What direction might it go if/when Damon develops feelings for Elena?

Author: ifellhard | Filed under: News Blog, TV Recap & ReviewDon’t ever forget to lock the door of the tomb when you leave!
A groggy Elena awakens in a motel room and sees Ben sleeping in a chair. She tries to sneak out and is stopped by Ben who tries to compel her, unaware that she’s wearing vervain in her necklace. She tries again to escape and is stopped by Anna. Elena goes to the bathroom and finds Bonnie unconscious in the bathtub.
At the Salvatore house, Damon is reading the grimoire and Stefan tells him that Anna took Elena. Stefan ponders whether there is still some of Damon’s blood in her body and Damon quips that he’ll get to see her again if she dies. Stefan asks Damon what he knows and where to find Anna. Damon won’t give him any information. Stefan tells Damon that this all started because of him and that he’s sorry. Damon accepts and Stefan continues to beg for information. Damon tells him, “I hope Elena dies.”
Elena tends to Bonnie and as she comes to, Bonnie tells Elena that Ben is a vampire. They discuss why they are there and Elena tells her that it’s because of the tomb and Emily’s spell book. Confused, Bonnie asks about the spell book and Elena explains that they need a witch to open the tomb and let the vampires out. Ben comes into the bathroom and Bonnie tells him that they are wasting their time because she won’t help. Ben tells her that Elena is her motivation to help. Ben takes Elena into the room with Anna who comments on how Elena really is Katherine’s doppelganger. She makes a few snide comments about how the Salvatore boys must be “reeling” over her. Elena asks Anna who she is and she mentions how she’s practically dating Jeremy.
Jeremy is at the grill, as are Matt and Tyler. The topic of conversation is a big party being thrown in the woods near the old cemetery that night. Caroline shows up and asks Jeremy where Elena is because she’s been texting her all day and she hasn’t responded. Jeremy says that she went somewhere with Stefan and he hasn’t seen her. They then talk about the party. Caroline gives a prepared speech to Matt about their kiss and offers him an out if he doesn’t want to go any further with things. He declines to take the out.
Damon goes to Bonnie’s house and her grandmother opens the door. He asks to see Bonnie and she curtly tells him “never”. She calls him out for knocking on the door of a Bennett witch and asking for anything. Damon asks her what he did and she tells him that he is no friend to them. She then tells him to get off of her porch. He challenges her to step through the door and say it to him. Damon grabs his head in pain and goes to his knees as Grams walks through the door onto the porch, telling him that she’s not Bonnie and he doesn’t want to mess with her. She then goes back into her house.
Elena tells Anna that Bonnie won’t open the tomb and asks if she really wants Katherine out that badly. Anna tells her that no one wants to see Katherine again except for Damon, the “love-struck idiot.” Elena asks who she wants and Anna tells her that her mother is in the tomb and she blames Katherine and how she watched Jonathon Gilbert take her away. Elena tells her that she’s sorry and Anna believes that she really is. She picks up Elena’s phone and calls Stefan, telling him that Elena will not be harmed if he has the grimoire. Stefan tells her that he can get it and Anna correctly surmises that Damon has it. She tells him that she has the witch and he or Damon will meet her on the town square in 30 minutes to discuss working together.
Stefan looks at Damon and Damon tells him to grovel again. Damon tells him, “I don’t care,” and walks off with a satisfied smirk.
As Anna leaves the motel, she reminds Ben that compulsion won’t work on them and that he will need to use violence if they try anything. Elena asks if there is anything to drink. Ben asks if she’s offering herself and then tells her that there’s water on the nightstand. Bonnie asks Elena if she can have a sip and throws the water on Ben, setting his arm aflame. The girls make a break for it, but Ben catches Elena.
Heading to the square, Anna runs into Jeremy. Jeremy asks her where she went the night before and she tells him that she had to go and asked Elena to tell him. He mentions that he hasn’t seen her all day. Jeremy asks her to go to the big party with him and tells her that he likes her. Anna agrees to meet him there. Jeremy leaves and Anna goes to sit on a bench. Damon shows up to meet her and reminds Anna that he likes to work alone. She points out that she does, too. She tells him that he is minus a witch and she’s minus a spell book. Damon tells her that Stefan will go after her if she messes with Elena. Anna makes a threat to kill her if she doesn’t get what she wants. Damon asks her when she wants to do it. She makes a crack about how the Salvatore brothers are pathetic for their women and tells him to meet her at the church at sundown.
Ben asks Bonnie if witches don’t have eternal life. She tells him that it’s true. Ben tells her, “That sucks.” The door flies opens and it’s Stefan. Sunlight pours into the room, frying Ben. He dives for shade in the room while Elena and Bonnie flee. Stefan tells him to leave at sundown or he will kill him.
Back at Grams’ house, Bonnie asks her how she knew where they were. Grams tells her about how emotions can fuel a witch’s power. Stefan came to her for help and she used a simple locator spell. Bonnie tells her that she’s sorry and Grams tells her “not as sorry as they’re gonna be.” Elena and Stefan enter the room and Elena asks what they will do now. Stefan tells them to stay put because he can’t protect them if they leave and Grams refuses to be a prisoner in her own home. She tells them that they’ll protect themselves. Elena says that they need to let Damon have Katherine back. Bonnie says that he doesn’t deserve to have her back. Elena asks what other choice they have. Grams says that she’ll open the tomb. They can get Katherine but they have to destroy the rest with fire.
Anna arrives at the motel, finding the door wide open and Ben cowering in the shade. He tells her that it was Stefan. Anna is upset because she has no witch and decides that she will be there when Damon gets there.
Elena goes to Damon and tells him that she convinced Grams to help. Damon doubts her. She promises to help him get Katherine back. Damon tells her that he wishes he could believe her. She removes her necklace and tells him to ask if she’s lying. He looks into her eyes and puts it back on her, telling her that he didn’t compel her in Atlanta because he was having fun. He tells her that he will trust her and tells her not to make him regret it.
Damon and Elena arrive at the party in the woods and run into Matt and Caroline. Caroline grabs Matt’s hand at their appearance. Matt tries to introduce himself to Damon. Damon shuns him and takes Elena with him to the tomb.
Stefan is in the graveyard with Bonnie and Grams, telling Grams that he’s completed the preparations for her as Elena and Damon arrive.
At the party, Tyler walks up to Jeremy and asks him for some weed. Jeremy tells him that he doesn’t do that anymore and, if he did, he wouldn’t do it with him. Tyler berates him, asking if he has any friends. Jeremy has a pained look on his face as Tyler walks off and then Anna arrives. They go for a walk.
In the tomb, Grams and Bonnie begin the spell. Damon has a bag of blood in his jacket for Katherine. Stefan tells Damon that he can’t wait to be rid of him.
Anna and Jeremy are near the cemetery and Jeremy tells her that the place makes him think of someone he knew and confides that he’s not sure what his “scene” is anymore. He asks her if she’d like to be a part of his “non-scene”. She tells him that she’d love to, but she’s leaving. She and her mother are moving away. They say goodbye and kiss. Anna’s face changes and Jeremy notices before Ben knocks him out. Anna tells Ben to grab Jeremy because she’s taking him to meet her mother.
Tyler walks up and steals Matt’s beer, asking where his date went. Matt tells him that he’s not sure and comments on how he’s worried that she’s going to be clingy. Caroline comes up and Tyler leaves. Caroline gives him another speech about the hand-holding. She tells him that it was really more to show Damon that she was with a good guy.
Grams and Bonnie begin the incantation, opening the door, and Stefan goes for the gasoline. Damon asks Elena if she’s ready because he’s using her for leverage to make sure that Grams doesn’t close the door on him. Stefan finds Ben with Jeremy. Anna tells Stefan that she’s going in and that Ben will feed on Jeremy if he stops her. Bonnie tries to stop Anna from going in, but Grams tells her to let her go. She tells Bonnie that she won’t be coming out…none of them are.
Stefan tells Ben that Anna doesn’t care about him and he’s disposable. Ben tells Stefan that he knows that he doesn’t feed and he’s not strong enough to beat him. Ben charges him and Stefan thwarts him before hitting him with flame, killing him as promised.
Elena is looking for Damon in the tomb, seeing what appear to be corpses all around her. She freaks out when one blinks at her with red eyes. As she scrambles to get out, the beam of her flashlight lands on Anna.
Stefan returns to the tomb and asks Bonnie and Grams where Elena is. They tell her that Damon took her in and he freaks out. Grams stops Stefan from going into the tomb, telling him that if he goes in, he won’t come out because the spell didn’t remove the seal from the door. It will let vampires in, but it won’t let them out. She reminds him that she’ll protect her own and Elena can get out.
Anna taunts Elena and tells her that her boyfriend and Jonathon Gilbert were responsible for everything. She tells Elena that she made her choice a long time ago that it would be Gilbert blood to bring her mother back to life and tells Elena how she had Jeremy all ready to go. She grabs Elena and bites her wrist. Elena screams and Stefan hears it and charges into the tomb after her.
Bonnie begs Grams to help her or she’ll do it alone. Anna puts Elena’s wrist to Pearl’s mouth to feed. Stefan orders Anna to let her go. Elena flees back out to Bonnie and Grams. Pearl speaks to Anna.
Elena is out and Stefan is trapped behind the seal. Damon discovers that Katherine isn’t in the tomb. Bonnie and Grams begin an incantation and Anna and Pearl come out. Anna tells Elena that Jeremy is OK and she won’t touch him. Damon and Stefan argue inside. Elena runs back in and pleads with him to go. As the torches go out during the incantation, Elena, Damon, and Stefan emerge from the tomb.
Caroline tells Matt that she wants it to work between them. Matt tells her that he doesn’t want to mess it up, either.
Elena and Stefan go to Jeremy and confirm that he’s OK. Damon is heartbroken. Elena goes to him and gives him a huge embrace to try to comfort him, telling him that she’s sorry as Stefan looks on.
Back at Grams’ house, Bonnie is concerned about how weary and tired Grams is. Grams goes to lie down for a while.
Elena tends to Jeremy, asking how his head feels. Jeremy tells her that he doesn’t remember anything and he didn’t drink that much. She tells him that she’s going to Bonnie’s and she’ll be back soon, pointing out that Jenna is home. After Elena leaves, Jeremy goes to his computer and types “vampires” in the search bar.
Anna and Pearl go into the motel room and are greeted by Damon. Damon confronts Anna for knowing that Katherine wasn’t in the tomb. Anna tells him that he wouldn’t have helped her otherwise. Damon goes after Pearl, grabbing her around the neck. Pearl tells him that there was a guard at the church who locked them in. Katherine promised to turn him. He was obsessed with her – he was under her spell just like everyone else. Anna tells him that she last saw Katherine in Chicago in 1983. She tells him that Katherine knew where he was, but she didn’t care to go see him. Damon has a look of shock and hurt on his face as he leaves.
Elena is on the phone with Stefan, telling him that she’s at Bonnie’s. She asks if Damon is OK. Stefan tells her that he doesn’t know and he’ll call her later. Damon is sitting and staring into the fireplace. Stefan goes and sits in a chair next to him and no words are spoken between them.
Bonnie goes in to check on Grams as she sleeps, but Grams won’t wake and she isn’t breathing. Bonnie begins crying and calls for Elena. As Bonnie grabs the grimoire, crying that she’ll fix her, Elena calls 911.
Back in the tomb, a vampire is holding the remains of the bag of blood that Damon smashed against the wall. He gets up and opens the door, walking out of the tomb.
I totally did not expect the turn of events with Grams in this episode! I really hope that it’s not too late for her because I love her character.
I really hope that they do something bigger with Matt, Caroline, and Tyler in future episodes because their storyline is just so boring to me at this point.
I felt so bad for Damon. All along, he’s been told of how selfish Katherine was and now he learns that she’s been “alive” and free all this time and she never went to him, knowing where he was.

Author: ifellhard | Filed under: News Blog, TV Recap & ReviewOBS RECAPS & REVIEWS: THE VAMPIRE DIARIES EPISODE 13: CHILDREN OF THE DAMNED
Episode 13 opens with a flashback to 1864 and a carriage coming down the road. There is a woman, Katherine, in the road fretting over her injured husband. The people in the carriage stop and get out and offer their help. The man tells Katherine that it’s not safe for her to be out at night and she replies, “No, it’s not”, bearing her fangs and attacking him. She then attacks his servant and then tells the man, Damon, “That’s how it’s done.” Katherine then explains what happens to the bodies and asks Damon if he’s ready. He tells her that he is ready to be turned. Katherine tells him that she will when the time is right and tells Damon to kiss her. He looks at her bloodstained mouth and chin squeamishly and then kisses her.
In the present, Elena and Stefan are cuddling in bed when they are interrupted by Damon. He’s ready to discuss the business of opening the tomb and puts Elena on “journal duty” because she’s a Gilbert. Elena agrees to look for it for him. Damon and Stefan explain the grimoire to her and then they discuss the mystery vampire from the dance. Damon leaves and Elena and Stefan retreat back under the covers. Cut to flashback of Damon and Katherine in a similar situation…
Katherine bears her fangs, Damon’s eyes grow wide and there’s a knock at the door. Emily announces a visitor for Katherine and Katherine asks her to wait. Katherine dresses, goes downstairs, and greets Pearl. Katherine asks Emily to tell Mr. Salvatore that she’s stepped away. Emily asks which one and Katherine tells her “both”. Katherine and Pearl go outside to talk. Pearl asks her how long she’ll keep carrying on with both of the brothers. She also gives Katherine a bottle of an elixir that they is being given to the townspeople. Katherine pours some on her wrist and it burns her skin – it contains vervain. They discuss how the townspeople know about vampires being among them and how they are ingesting vervain. We also get a shot of Pearl’s daughter, Anna – the same Anna that Jeremy has befriended.
In the present, Anna is on the phone leaving a message for Jeremy, telling him that she’ll be at the Grill. Ben comes in, fresh from the shower, and they discuss Anna’s relationship with Jeremy. Ben accidentally burns himself with sunlight by pulling the curtain back from the window because he’s a new vampire and keeps forgetting. They discuss the journal, going hunting, and getting the tomb opened. Ben asks Anna why she chose him. She tells him that she needed “eyes and ears” and he was sad, lacked purpose, and needed her.
At Elena’s house, Elena asks Stefan if Damon really believes. They talk about trust and Damon. Elena says that she believes that she thinks that everything that Damon has been done was for love, albeit twisted. Stefan points out that Damon has no regard for human life. Elena asks what will happen if the tomb is opened and Stefan tells her that a lot of people will die, despite Damon’s promises. Elena is visibly shaken by this. They go through her family’s “archives” and Stefan recognizes a photograph of Jonathon Gilbert. Jeremy comes in and asks what they are doing. Elena tells him that she was feeling sentimental and was looking for an old journal. Jeremy tells them that he used it for a history paper and that Alaric wanted to see it and that he has it.
Alaric is reading the journal, specifically a passage about the compass and we witness a flashback from the journal entry of Jonathon Gilbert, Mr. Lockwood, and Mr. Salvatore talking. They are interrupted by Stefan. Lockwood and Gilbert ask Mr. Salvatore if he’s told the boys because they need all of the men they can get. Mr. Salvatore pledges that his boys can be counted upon.
Back at the school, Alaric photocopies the journal and stores it in a locker. Anna is stalking him in the hallway. Alaric returns to the classroom and his reading. A shadow passes by the door and he looks up, calls out, gets up to see who is in the hall. He asks if someone is there. He goes to the locker and retrieves a gun-like item and loads it with a wooden stake. He opens fire and Stefan catches the stake. Alaric and Stefan stare each other down and Alaric reloads. Stefan pushes him and tells him to have a seat. Stefan asks him about the weapon, who he is, and tells him that he’s not going to hurt him unless he tries again. Alaric tells him that he’s a teacher – a historian who made a few discoveries about Mystic Falls while doing research. Stefan makes a crack about him acting like Van Helsing and tells him to tell the truth. Alaric tells him that his wife was a parapsychologist and her work led him here. He tells Stefan that she’s dead because a vampire killed her. Stefan asks where the journal is. Alaric tells him that it’s on the desk, but it’s gone.
Anna is reading the journal and referring to it as “gibberish” when Ben asks her about it. As she reads about Jonathon Gilbert’s passage about a beautiful woman named Pearl, we get another flashback of Pearl and Katherine talking in a store. Katherine tells her of her plans to turn both of the Salvatore brothers and Pearl tells her to be careful. Katherine promises her that they will all be safe as Jonathon Gilbert enters the store. He asks for a moment with Pearl. Katherine tells Anna that her mother has an admirer.
The flashback continues with Stefan and Damon walking with their father. Stefan pledges to their father that the founding families can count on him. There is a confrontation because of Damon’s desertion of the Army of the Confederacy. Mr. Salvatore explains that vampires live among them and there is a plan to kill them and he tells them that they will help. Damon glares at his father.
In the present, Damon is in the Gilbert’s kitchen with Jenna. He’s chopping vegetables while she sips on wine. He talks of how his father never approved of anyone that he dated and asks Jenna about herself. She mentions that Logan Fell wasn’t the only loser that she dated. Damon asks if they ever found him and she says that he’s in the Bahama working on his tan and makes a crack about the Fells all being snooty. Elena comes in, looking surprised.
Stefan asks Alaric how long he’s been aware of him. Alaric confesses that it has only been recent and tells him that Damon killed his wife and that he witnessed it. He tells him that Damon and his wife disappeared – her body was never found. Stefan tells him that Damon can never know why he’s here because Damon will kill him and offers to help Alaric.
Damon and Elena are in the kitchen, engaging in their typical banter. Damon asks her if the renewed brotherhood is real and Elena tells him that he can trust Stefan. Damon tries using his powers and Elena tells him that she has vervain on her. Damon tells her that he’s not trying to compel her – he only wants her to be honest. She tells him again that he can trust Stefan, setting up another flashback…
Mr. Salvatore and Katherine are playing a game of croquet, Katherine tells him that he can trust her. Stefan and Damon approach and discuss the possibility of their father keeping her safe. Damon tells him that they can’t trust their father. Stefan thinks differently, but promises not to tell their father.
In the present, Elena and Damon discuss the trust issues that they have. Damon just wants to get Katherine back, telling Elena that she should understand what he would do to anyone who gets in his way.
Damon and Jeremy are sitting on the couch playing a video game and Jeremy’s phone rings. He ignores the call and keeps playing. Damon asks who he’s dodging. Elena and Jenna are having a conversation in the kitchen and Jenna asks when she’ll tell Jeremy about being adopted. The door bell rings and Damon gets up to answer it along with Elena to find a very surprised Stefan standing there.
Ben and Bonnie are out on a date. He asks her what her friends are up to and he mentions that all of his friends left after graduation. Bonnie talks about Elena and what great friends they are.
Damon, Stefan, and Elena have a conversation on the porch about the journal being gone and who else might know that Alaric had it. Damon goes back in and asks Jeremy about the journal. They learn that the Anna knows about it and Damon asks him how he knows her. The phone rings and Elena goes to take the call in her room from Bonnie dishing on her date. Stefan comes in after she gets off the phone and produces Alaric’s photocopies of the journal.
At the grill, Anna and Jeremy meet up as Damon spies on them, setting up another flashback of Pearl, Katherine, and Damon discussing the sheriff buying the vervain elixir. Damon asks how they can be so calm and Katherine tells him that they can walk the streets in daylight thanks to Emily. No one would suspect them because of that. Anna appears and announces Mrs. Fell’s approach.
Back in Elena’s room, she and Stefan are reading the journal and Elena finds a reference about Emily. The Fell family believed that Jonathon Gilbert should protect the witch’s spell book and he feared that she would haunt him. Mr. Salvatore removed that fear from him, promising to protect the secret of the book and that he would carry that secret to his grave. This set up another flashback…
Mr. Salvatore is visited by Stefan in his study. Stefan shares his concerns about the plans for the vampires and openly questioning whether all vampires are evil. His father tells him that vampires are from the darkest parts of Hell and have to be destroyed.
Back in the present, Stefan tells Elena that he knows where Emily’s grimoire is.
Anna enters her hotel room and is attacked by Damon.
Emily and Stefan are in the graveyard with shovels to dig up Mr. Salvatore’s grave. Stefan’s thoughts lead to another flashback where he is in bed asking Katherine about a gift. She tells him that it’s from Emily – not Damon. He tells her that he wants her all to himself. She reminds him that she makes the rules and that she’s selfish. She bites Stefan’s neck and begins to choke and says, “vervain.” Stefan is shocked. His father comes into the room and tells him to get the sheriff because they have a vampire. His father fed him vervain because he grew suspicious after their conversation about his sympathetic feelings toward vampires.
Elena and Stefan start digging.
Anna and Damon talk about how long she’s been in town and why it took so long for them to cross paths. We learn that she turned Logan Fell because she needed access to the Fell journal. Anna tells Damon that his father had the grimoire and points out that they both want the tomb opened. Damon tells her that he works alone.
Ben and Bonnie continue their date. Bonnie kisses him and stops immediately. She apologizes to Ben and says that she should have waited until the end of their date. She excuses herself to go to the bathroom and is attacked by Ben on the way.
Elena and Stefan continue digging. Stefan hits the coffin. He opens it, pulls out the book, and closes it back up. As he opens the book, Damon walks up with a very angry look on his face. Stefan tells him that he can’t let him bring Katherine back. Damon says that he’s sorry for trusting Stefan. They argue and Stefan calls him out for being there on his own. Damon gives Elena a very hurt look and tells her, “You had me fooled.” Damon threatens to kill Elena if Stefan destroys the book and grabs Elena. He feeds her blood and threatens to snap her neck. Stefan promises the book for Elena and Damon concedes. Stefan and Elena leave and Damon goes to the book.
Flashback to a lynch mob coming after Katherine at the Salvatore house. Damon begs his father to let him be killed with Katherine.
At Elena’s she complains of a headache and Stefan tells her that Damon was right – it was Stefan’s fault. Stefan recalls Katherine being hauled off and him telling Damon that he will help get her back. Damon leaves angry and hurt. In the present, Stefan tells Elena how he put his faith in their father and Damon put his faith in him. He tells her that he destroyed that faith. Elena tells him that he didn’t do anything wrong. He goes downstairs to get her an aspirin as she goes to lay down on her bed. Jenna tells Stefan to keep the door open upstairs and Jeremy comes in. He asks where Anna went. Jenna tells him that she went to the bathroom and Stefan has another flashback. He recalls Pearl telling Anna to stay hidden and to stay with Emily. Jonathon Gilbert approaches Pearl and his vampire compass points her out. She begs him to spare her and he dimes her out. Anna sees it all happening. Emily consoles Anna, telling her that she knows how to protect them.
Stefan runs to Elena’s room to find her gone and the window open.
Interesting revelations and insight this episode, huh?
So, Ben has apparently taken Bonnie. I wonder what they really want with her. I’m assuming that it’s so that she can perform the spells in Emily’s grimoire to open the tomb.
It’s safe to assume that Anna took Elena. I’m guessing it’s retribution for her mother being taken from her.
Interesting that Alaric never found his wife’s body. Do you think that she might be a vampire now? Is it possible that she was a vampire then? How did he come to have a ring that looks like Damon and Stefan’s?
So many answers, but so many more questions!

OBS RECAPS & REVIEWS: THE VAMPIRE DIARIES EPISODE 12: UNPLEASANTVILLE
Author: ifellhard | Filed under: News Blog, TV Recap & ReviewTonight’s episode opened with Elena and Stefan discussing the vampire that she hit with her car. She tells him that all she can really remember was that he was wearing black boots and a black hoodie. Stefan gives her vervain for her family and friends, telling her how she can put it into jewelry so that her loved ones can’t be compelled by vampires.
Later, at the Gilbert’s house, Jeremy is doing something with the ancestor’s journal when the doorbell rings. He gets up from the table, leaving the journal open to a page with a plant on it. The plant looks a lot like vervain. Jeremy opens the door and it’s the pizza delivery guy. Jeremy calls for Elena to come down and invites the guy in, telling him to leave the pizza on the table by the doorway. He comes in with a smirk on his face. Elena pays him, he leaves and pulls up the hood to his black hoodie as he walks away.
At the Salvatore home, there are books everywhere as Damon looks through the family library to research how to open the tomb. Stefan confronts Damon about taking Elena to Atlanta and makes a few comments about whether Bree was able to help.
The following day at school, Alaric returns Jeremy’s essay, marked with an “A”. Alaric praises his work and they discuss Jeremy’s thoughts on whether there are really vampires in Mystic Falls. Alaric asks Jeremy about his source – Jonathan Gilbert. Jeremy tells him that he was his ancestor and the information came from his journal. Alaric tells Jeremy that he’d love to see it because of the first-hand account of the Civil War, making a crack about it being like porn for history teachers. Jeremy gives it to him.
Elena and Caroline are walking talking about the necklace that Elena gave her. As they talk, the topic of Matt and Caroline’s relationship comes up and Elena gives Caroline her blessing to pursue it.
At the Grill, Matt is at the bar filling out a job application, talking to one of the bartenders, Ben. Bonnie and Elena are seated at a table and talk about Elena finding out that she was adopted. As Bonnie is leaving to pay the bill, Damon stops her. Bonnie tells him to stay away from her and Ben intervenes. Damon leaves and Ben hits on Bonnie.
Elena is walking to her car and her phone rings. She answers it and the guy on the other end of the line says that he’s the guy that she hit with her car and asks her if the car she’s driving now is new. He tells her that she won’t get away next time.
Back at Stefan’s, Elena and Stefan discuss how she’s being stalked. Stefan gives Elena the Gilbert Family’s pocketwatch/vampire finding compass and tells her how he ended up with it. He explains how the compass points out vampires and how the founding families (including hers) used it in 1864 when they tried to eradicate the vampires from Mystic Falls.
Caroline and Matt are working on painting banners at school and Caroline is flirting with Matt. The upcoming school dance comes up and Matt tells her that he’s not going because he has to work. Caroline made a few comments that upset Matt and their conversation became tense after that.
At the Grill, Jeremy is playing pool and Anna shows up, asking how things went with his essay. She asked if the teacher believed the stuff about vampires. She asks him if he wants to do something later. He turns her down because he has punch duty at the school dance. She asks him about the next day or the day after that. Jeremy turns her down, leaving her looking dejected as he leaves the Grill.
Elena comes home and Aunt Jenna tells her that the insurance company called and her car is totaled. She tells Elena that it’s OK to keep driving her car for now. Elena asks her if she’s coming to the dance tonight and she tells her that Alaric asked her to help chaperone. Elena confronts Jenna about the fact that she’s adopted and no one told her. Jenna tells her that her birth mother was a 16 year-old runaway named Isabel who showed up at her father’s office one night as he was leaving work, about to give birth. Elena’s father delivered the baby and gave Isabel a place to stay. She disappeared a few days later. Elena’s parents were having trouble having a baby of their own and Mr. Gilbert used his position as a doctor to create a falsified birth certificate, listing Elena’s mother as the birth mother.
Damon is continuing to work on his research and Stefan gives him their father’s journal, telling him that it contains nothing that he’s trying to find. There’s no information about Katherine, the tomb, or how to open the tomb. Stefan offers to help him to get him to leave town. He agrees that he’ll let Katherine get out, but the other 26 vampires in there will stay put.
Elena is in the bathroom getting ready for the dance and the compass (which she left on her bed) starts moving. After leaving the bathroom, she notices the movement and calls Stefan. Damon answers the phone, telling her that Stefan’s on his way and forgot his phone. Elena mentions that the compass was moving and assumes that it’s Stefan in the house. The camera pans and shows a vampire on the ceiling almost directly above her. Elena ends the call and the vampire drops down to attack her. He’s knocked away by Stefan before anything can happen. They scuffle and the mystery vampire escapes. Damon comes over and they discuss the attack. By now they’ve figured out that it was the pizza guy. They wonder if there are others and they don’t know. Stefan reminds them that the vampire was invited in and Damon states that they’ll go get him tonight. Damon proposes that they go to the dance as planned and see what happens.
At the dance, Alaric sees Damon come in with Elena and Stefan. Jenna comes up and they go for punch. Caroline, Bonnie, and Elena discuss Damon and Elena responds to their questions of why he’s with them by telling them that she has to learn to tolerate her boyfriend’s brother at some point. Jenna and Alaric discuss Jeremy and his progress in school and then the topic shifts to Alaric’s wife.
Damon asks Bonnie to dance. FAIL. Caroline tells him to back off. Damon asks Elena if she’d like to dance. She turns to Stefan and asks him if he’d like to dance with her, leaving Damon by himself. The camera pans to the “hoodie vampire/pizza guy” in the crowd. Elena and Stefan dance and talk about whether he can sense other vampires in crowds while scanning the dance for signs of the vampire. Elena asks Stefan what things were really like in the 1950’s. Jeremy is at the punch table and Anna shows up.
Bonnie and Caroline arrive at the Grill after ditching the dance. Bonnie crushes on the bartender, Ben. Caroline makes a snarky comment about him being a “washed up jock who pours drinks for a living” and Matt overhears it as he buses tables.
At the dance, Elena and Stefan continue to dance and Damon is watching. Alaric approaches Damon and they introduce themselves to one another. Damon claims to be Stefan’s legal guardian. Alaric ends up asking a bunch of questions, making Damon suspicious.
At the Grill, Bonnie and Caroline are seated at a table and Caroline is feeling sorry for herself. Bonnie tries to give her a pep talk and then gets bold and asks Ben on a date. Matt walks by the table where Caroline is sitting and she confronts him. Matt throws her “washed up jock” comment back at her.
Anna helps Jeremy with the punch at the dance. She asks to see the journal and gets very agitated when he tells her that Alaric has it. Jeremy sees her eye do something strange. She turns away from him, trying not to transform in front of him, and makes a hasty departure. She’s in the hallways of the school when someone wearing a hoodie approaches. It’s the hoodie vampire/pizza guy. They talk and she tells him that she’s sticking to the plan and tells him to leave the girl alone. They talk about how Elena looks like Katherine and he makes a comment about how he just wants to have fun with her.
Back inside the dance, Damon is dancing with a girl as Elena and Stefan watch. Elena spots someone in a hoodie and Stefan goes after him, telling her to get Damon. Stefan catches up with him, but it’s just a guy. He tells Stefan that some guy gave it to him. Meanwhile, Elena’s phone rings. It’s the vampire and he gives Elena instructions on what to do, threatening to kill Jeremy if she doesn’t comply. Elena goes through the exit as instructed and takes off running through the hallways. He grabs her and tosses her. She picks up some pencils and stakes him. She breaks a mop handle and tries to stake him with one of the pieces, but he catches her hand. As he goes for the kill, Stefan stops him. Damon, holding one of the broken pieces of mop handle, tells the vampire that they just want to talk. When he makes a move, Stefan stakes him with the other piece. Stefan asks him what he wants with Elena. The vampire tells him, “She looks like Katherine.” Stefan and Damon exchange looks and Damon asks, “You know Katherine?” Damon asks him how to get into the tomb and won’t tell. Stefan drives the stake further and the vampire tells them that they need Jonathan Gilbert’s journal. Anna sees this happening and runs away as Stefan kills the vampire. Elena freaks out a bit because they don’t know who he’s working with and if there are other vampires. Damon tells her, “He had to die.” Stefan explains that he’d been invited in. They hear someone in the hallway and Damon goes to tend to it. It’s Alaric. Damon uses his powers on him, asking him why he’s in Mystic Falls. He tells him that he’s there for a teaching job. Damon leaves and Alaric, a bit shaken, opens his hand and looks down at the crushed vervain in his palm.
Caroline apologizes to Matt and they talk about where their relationship is going. Matt tells her that he’s scared to move on because what he has with her is the only good thing in his life at the moment. Caroline tells him that she’s already gone because he decided that for her.
Alaric takes Jenna home and they stand on the front porch, talking. He asks her out on a real date and she accepts. They end up talking about his wife and how it’s OK for him to mention her. Jenna asks what her name was and he tells her Isabel. Jenna asks where she was from and learns that she was from Virginia, not too far from Mystic Falls.
Caroline is walking home and Matt pulls up in his truck, telling her to get in the truck. He gets out of the truck and they kiss in the deserted street.
Stefan and Elena talk about the events of the night and Elena tells him that it felt good to fight back. Stefan tells her about his plan and the deal that he made with Damon and then tells her that it was a lie. Elena is OK with that.
Back at the Grill, Ben is locking up for the night and is being watched by Anna. She transforms and goes to attack him. He thwarts her attack, revealing that he is also a vampire. He asks, “Where’s Noah?” Anna tells him that the Salvatore brothers killed him. Ben tells her about the witch crushing on him and Anna tells him that she doesn’t have the journal but she knows where it is. They walk off with their arms around each other into the night.
This week’s episode was definitely better than last week. There was definitely more action and it felt like the plot was moving along more. I particularly like the twist of Alaric’s deceased wife quite probably being Elena’s mother. I wonder if he knows that she had a child that she abandoned. If so, does he know that it’s Elena?
Hmmm…Stefan deceiving Damon? Should be interesting.
Now we have the mysterious vamps going after the Gilbert journal as well as Damon.
How many male vampires are out there as a result of Katherine and her games?

OBS RECAPS & REVIEWS: THE VAMPIRE DIARIES S1 – EPISODE 11: BLOODLINES
Author: ifellhard | Filed under: News Blog, TV Recap & ReviewDidn’t anyone tell Damon not to leave any witnesses?!
Tonight’s episode opens with Stefan trying to call Elena and leaving her a voice mail when she wrecks her car. The figure of the “person” that she hit is lying in the road and gets up. Elena is upside-down in her car and is freaking out as the “person” walks toward her. The “person” then runs away at vampire speed. Seconds later, Damon appears at Elena’s window and helps get her out of the car. As she starts to lose consciousness, she tells Damon, “I look like her,” before fainting in his arms. Damon surveys the area and then walks away, carrying Elena away from the accident.
Alaric is typing at his computer, the words running through his inner monologue. As he types, he says, “I found one,” and makes reference to staking Logan. He comments on how there is evil in Mystic Falls and then the camera cuts to a framed photo of a woman. There’s a flashback of Alaric kissing her as he leaves, telling her that he’ll be home late.
Elena wakes the following day in Damon’s car and asks where they are. Damon tells her that they are in Georgia. She asks who she hit with her car and Damon tells her that he would also like to know. Elena begins to freak out because she doesn’t have her phone and no one knows where she is, and she accuses Damon of kidnapping her. Damon points out that she doesn’t have her necklace and reminds her of how easily he can compel her. A phone rings – Elena’s phone – and Damon pulls it from his coat and answers it. It’s Stefan, looking for Elena. Elena refuses to talk to him. Stefan picks up the necklace with a worried look on his face. Elena begs Damon to take her home.
Jeremy runs into Alaric in the school parking lot. Alaric tells him that he’s looking for his ring in his car and finds it while they’re talking. They discuss Jeremy’s extra credit project and Jeremy tells him about what he’s working on and mentions that the Gilberts were one of the original founding families of Mystic Falls.
Stefan approaches Bonnie at school, asking for help with a spell. Bonnie is reluctant until he tells her that it’s to help Elena because she’s with Damon. She tries to find her by holding the necklace that Stefan gave her, but has no luck. She tries something else and is unsuccessful once again. Frustrated, Bonnie leaves, telling Stefan that something’s wrong.
Elena and Damon continue driving through Georgia and Elena asks about the man in the road, implying that he might be a vampire. Damon confirms her suspicion, and tells her that he didn’t know who he was. They arrive at a bar where the bartender and owner, Bree, jumps over the bar to greet Damon with a kiss. She pours shots for the crowd and toasts Damon. Elena learns that they met in college and share secrets with one another – Bree knows that Damon is a vampire and Damon knows that she’s a witch. Bree asks Damon what he wants.
Jeremy is at the library doing research for his extra credit and he meets a girl named “Anna” when she knocks some books from the shelves. They bump heads when they both lean down to pick them up at the same time.
Bonnie is at her Grams’ house looking through several witchcraft books to find out how to fix her powers. Grams tells her that her powers will work when she’s no longer blocked by what is scaring her so badly.
Elena is on the phone with Aunt Jenna, lying about where she was the night before and telling her that she’s at school. Damon is inside the bar with Bree and asks her to help him get into the tomb so that he can find out if “she” is still alive. Bree shoots him down, reminding him that they tried unsuccessfully twenty years before. She tells him that there is no way to do it without the crystal because Emily’s spell was “absolute.”
Bonnie is in the woods with the graveyard (where she was attacked earlier in the season) and tries unsuccessfully to levitate a leaf. She hears noises and shouts to see if anyone is there. The ground opens up beneath her and she falls down into a hole.
Outside the bar, Elena is on the phone with Stefan and he’s asking where she is so that he can come pick her up. She tells him, “You lied,” and asks him how she is connected to Katherine. Elena ends up hanging up on him. Inside the bar, Bree makes a phone call telling someone that they would never guess who walked into the bar.
Bonnie is lying on the ground inside the hole and it appears that she has fallen into some sort of tomb or a chamber. She calls out for help and then notices a pentagram carved into one of the stone walls.
Stefan appears at Grams’ house looking for Bonnie. They shake hands as they meet one another. Grams tells him that she trusts him to keep Bonnie safe, but refuses to invite him in.
In the library, Anna helps Jeremy locate the reference material for his paper and they discuss the topic of his paper about the local folklore. Anna immediately understands what he’s going for and mentions the topic of vampires.
Elena and Damon sit at the bar and Elena asks if he thinks that she’s descended from Katherine. They discuss the possibilities and Damon points out that it would be possible for Katherine to have children because vampires can’t procreate. Damon is eating and Elena asks how he can do that. He explains that he can keep up most human functions as long as he continues feeding on blood. She also asks him if any of the “nice act” is real.
Jeremy tells Anna that there’s no such thing as vampires and Anna talks about the stories that her family told her from her ancestors. They debate whether vampires are fact or fantasy and Anna mentions a journal that belonged to one of her ancestors, and piques Jeremy’s interest.
Bonnie tries to use her cell phone to call for help, but cannot get a signal down in the chamber. She goes over to the pentagram, puts her ear to the wall to listen to the sounds coming from the other side, and someone comes up behind her scaring her. It turns out to be Stefan coming to help her. Stefan tells her to close her eyes and he jumps out of the chamber with Bonnie in his arms. Bonnie tells him that she could hear ‘them” behind the door and they discuss how “they” can’t get out.
Elena and Damon are doing shots with a crowd in the bar and Elena is out-drinking many of the other people there. Someone walks into the bar and he and Bree exchange meaningful looks with one another.
At the Grill, Anna and Jeremy discuss how their ancestors kept similar journals and their conversation turns to vampire movies. Anna mentions doing a “fright night” of vampire movies and Jeremy balks at the idea of a date, telling her that he just got out of something and it’s too soon for him to do anything serious. Anna tries to cover by saying that it would be a friend thing.
Elena’s phone rings and it is Aunt Jenna asking Elena where she is. Elena goes outside the bar to hear better, stumbles, and drops her phone. Someone grabs her from behind and drags her off. Inside the bar, Bree asks Damon where Elena is and he goes to look for her. He sees her phone on the ground and then hears Elena cry out, “Damon, no!” Damon is attacked by another vampire who then begins to pour gasoline all over him. The other vampire (the person that Bree exchanged the look with in her bar) accuses Damon of killing his girlfriend. Elena figures out that the vampire is Lexi’s boyfriend and learns that Lexi turned him so that they could be together forever. Elena begs for Damon’s “life”, telling the other vampire how much Lexi loved him and to be better than Damon. When he spares Damon, Elena thanks him.
Stefan escorts Bonnie back to Grams’ house and Grams asks to speak with Stefan as Bonnie goes inside. Stefan calls Grams “Sheila” and makes a reference to when they met for the first time in October 1969. Grams points out the risk of his coming to the house earlier and the danger that they would both be in if anyone learned about who they really are. Stefan reassures her that her secret is safe with him and that their families have a long history of protecting one another’s secrets. She tells him that she will protect her own family before anyone else.
At the bar, Damon goes to tell Bree good-bye, asking for a kiss. She tells him that she’s full of vervain. She tells him that Emily’s grimoire can tell him how to reverse the spell. Damon ends up ripping out Bree’s heart before leaving.
Driving home, Elena asks Damon why he took her along. Damon makes several smart-aleck comments and Elena reminds him that she saved his life.
Elena shows up in Stefan’s room at the boarding house and tells him that he could have told her about her resemblance to Katherine, saying that she could have handled it and that she can’t take the lie. Stefan tells her that she is not Katherine and that she’s the opposite of everything that Katherine was. He tells her that the first day of school was not the first time that they met. He tells her that it was May 23, 2009 – the day that her parents died. He was in the woods near Old Wickery Bridge when he heard it, but he wasn’t fast enough. Her dad would not let Stefan help him until he helped Elena to safety. By the time he got back for her parents it was too late to save them. Stefan tells her how he spent the months that followed making sure that she wasn’t, in fact, Katherine and how he couldn’t leave town without knowing her. Elena asked why she looks like her. Stefan explained that Katherine was a Pierce and they were of no relation to the Gilberts. After some investigation, he discovered that Elena was adopted.
Jeremy and Anna are at the library and she brought him a folder stuffed with internet research about “animal attacks” over the past 75 years and how all of the bodies were drained of blood.
Stefan tells Elena how there was no record of her mother ever being pregnant, nor any records of her being admitted to the hospital to deliver a baby, although the birth certificate lists her mother on it. Stefan tells Elena that he loves her. They kiss and then hug.
When Elena finally comes home, Aunt Jenna confronts her about lying about where she’s been and Elena calls her out for lying, asking if she’s adopted. Jenna is stunned as Elena storms up the stairs.
Back at the Grill, Alaric is working on something and having a drink at the bar. Damon walks in and takes a seat a few stools down the bar. Alaric has another flashback – a vision of a vampire draining his wife…the same vampire seated by him at the bar.
I’m so excited for the show’s return! It’s been too long!
How long do you think that it will be before Jeremy learns that the vampires are real and that his sister is sleeping with one of them?
What do you think that Alaric is going to do about Damon?
Do you think that Grams will be playing a bigger role in episodes to come if Damon tries to get Emily’s grimoire?
I’m anxious to learn more about who Elena’s real family is and why she bears a virtually identical appearance to Katherine.

VAMPIRE DIARIES NEWS FOR FEBRUARY 21: CHARACTERS & CHALLENGES
Author: whatategilbertgrape | Filed under: News Blog, TV Show NewsSource: nylonmag
LOVE SUCKS

Those well acquainted with Serena and Little J may find this fact hard to believe: Vampire Diaries, The CW’s budding show about bloodsuckers and the teen girls who love and / or get eaten by them, has double the number of Gossip Girl viewers.
What makes it such a hit? It could be the current cultural zeitgeist of Edward, Bella, Sookie, Bill, and immortal drama. It could be the lingering teen appeal of star Nina Dobrev (remember her from Degrassi?). Or maybe it’s just damn fun and funny.

‘VAMPIRES DIARIES’ STAR NINA DOBREV ON ELENA’S LOOK-ALIKE DILEMMA
When it premiered in September, The CW’s “The Vampire Diaries” drew the largest audience of any other premiere since the network’s 2006 debut, and it has maintained impressive momentum ever since. On the heels of a 2010 People’s Choice Award for Favorite New TV Drama, the show returns tonight after a nine-week hiatus.
“Degrassi: The Next Generation” alum Nina Dobrev, who recently celebrated her 21st birthday, is pulling double duty. She not only stars as the show’s magnetic ingenue, Elena Gilbert, but also as her civil-war-era doppelgänger, the bloodthirsty vampiress Katherine Pierce.

‘VAMPIRE DIARIES’ STAR KATERINA GRAHAM SAYS NEW EPISODES HAVE ‘CHALLENGES’

When ‘The Vampire Diaires’ returns on tonight, fans will be scrambling to know what’s next for the kids of Mystic Falls, Virginia. While hints were dropped that Elena (Nina Dobrev) could fall prey to the charms of Damon (Ian Somerhalder) and forget about Stefan (Paul Wesley), it comes as no surprise that her witchy BFF, Bonnie, may have a crisis on her hands as well.
“Bonnie is definitely going to be faced with some challenges that she was not expecting,”Katerina Graham, who plays Bonnie on the show, told MTV News recently. “And in order to protect her family and her friends, she’s going to have to make some decisions that are going to test her and Elena’s friendship. And she’s going to have to either really be there for her or take a step back.”

ONLINE SPOILERS ‘FALSE’ FOR VAMPIRE DIAIRES
The Vampire Diaries returns with its first new episode since mid November, Bloodlines, in which bad-boy vampire dude Damon (Ian Somerhalder) takes a sojourn to the Georgia bayous, where he puts the fear of godlessness into an old flame (guest star Gina Torres).
There’s no advance warning in the show’s promos for what happens to dear Elena (Nina Dobrev), who found herself in a precarious situation in November’s cliffhanger, but it’s a safe bet The Vampire Diaries’ heart and soul will embrace the light like a moth to the flame before the night is out.
