Percy & Annabeth

How did they get together? They met at Half-Blood Hill and faced their first quest together.

What attracts them to each other? The camaraderie they share while getting through dangerous quests gives them a great foundation as a couple.

Why do they make such a timeless couple? Being demigods and battling for what they believe in, makes them a timeless couple.

What are some of the problems they faced because them being a couple? The fact that they are supposed to be enemies just because their parents are.

Bella & Edward

How did they get together? Bella moved to Forks, WA, in the second semester of her junior year in high school. Edward was also a junior. They met in Biology class where Bella’s scent was so addicting to Edward he almost killed her right there.

What attracts them to each other? The fact that Edward cannot read Bella’s mind made him want to get to know her. Also the fact that her blood is like heroine to him is highly attractive. Bella is attracted to Edward almost immediately, she senses that he is different and accepts him without a fault.

Why do they make such a timeless couple? The fact that they ’shouldn’t’ be together makes them timeless. They are hunter and prey always disrupting the balance of nature but somehow love pulls them through.

What are some of the problems they faced because of being a couple? The constant reminder of Bella’s mortality is a problem because Edward has to be careful not to physically harm her. Also, bringing a mortal into his world makes other vampires want her to hurt him and the Cullens.

What do you think of these couples? Do you have a favorite?

Remember to check back by the end of the month for our second couples’s edition.

Sucking the Quileute Dry

ALL the world, it seems, has been bitten by “Twilight.” Conservative estimates place revenue generated from Stephenie Meyer’s vampire chronicles — the books, movies and merchandise — in the billion-dollar range. Scarcely mentioned, however, is the effect that “Twilight” has had on the tiny Quileute Nation, situated on a postage stamp of a reservation, just one square mile, in remote La Push, Wash.

To millions of “Twilight” fans, the Quileute are Indians whose (fictional) ancient treaty transforms young males of the tribe into vampire-fighting wolves. To the nearly 700 remaining Quileute Indians, “Twilight” is the reason they are suddenly drawing extraordinary attention from the outside — while they themselves remain largely excluded from the vampire series’ vast commercial empire.

Just last month, MSN.com issued an apology to the Quileute for intruding on its territory while videotaping a “Twilight” virtual tour in September. MSN.com sought permission from the Chamber of Commerce in nearby Forks, Wash., but didn’t pay the same courtesy to the Quileute. The video team trespassed onto a reservation cemetery and taped Quileute graves, including those of esteemed tribal leaders. These images were then set to macabre music and, in November, posted on MSN.com. The tribe quickly persuaded MSN.com to remove the Quileute images.  MORE HERE

Burger King to return with ‘The Twilight Saga: Eclipse’ endorsement after ‘New Moon’

It was hard to miss the fact that Burger King was heavily endorsed by The Twilight Saga: New Moon. Not only did the company’s products appear in the film itself, but they also sponsored a fandom-wide series of contests for BK crowns and giftcards. Not to mention, the company hosted New Moon goodies at their various franchises throughout the months surrounding and during the film’s release. You can see more of their New Moon goodies at their site here.

Well, it seems that Burger King hasn’t made plans to stop its involvement with the Twilight saga any time soon. They’ll be back for The Twilight Saga: Eclipse indeed.

According to Advertising Age, the company has signed on to promote itself through Eclipse, “for what is now being called the ‘female superfan.’”

If yesterday’s story about the Twilight fan effect upon the Volvo car industry is any indication, they may just be onto something.
Apparently, BK’s Eclipse plans have something to do with “a gaming promotion.”

Going back to New Moon, you might remember that in the books, Bella and Jessica (portrayed by Vanity Fair new Hollywood headliners Kristen Stewart and Anna Kendrick in the films) are headed to McDonald’s when she happens upon the familiar strangers that cause her initial adrenaline rush. So, for Burger King to snap up that exclusivity in promotion is very smart.

Anna Kendrick Talks About Her And Jessica’s Future After ‘Eclipse

It’s no new news that Anna Kendrick had mostly slipped under the radar in Hollywood for nearly half her adult life. Before she stole all her scenes in both “Twilight” and “New Moon” and garnered an Oscar nomination for her role in “Up in the Air,” Anna was the third youngest Tony nominee ever and made a name for her quirky humor in “Rocket Science.”

But it’s what’s going on after her success that is what is interesting. Jason Reitman wrote the role of Natalie specifically for Anna in “Up in the Air” and, though she still auditioned for the role, it really was hers to start with. She admitted in a new interview with Reuters that she’s been too caught up in “Up in the Air” and awards season to focus on work, but she is still deservedly receiving some A-list job opportunities.

Last summer, Anna was offered a role in an untitled Seth Rogen and James McAvoy comedy for Mandate Pictures, which starts shooting later this month. Mandate gave her the part without even an audition. MORE HERE

I really feel bad for the Quileute tribe in Washington. Unnecessary attention is being thrust upon these innocent people without significant cause. These people have been exploited and aren’t even asked permission or getting any money for the trouble they have been through since the Twilight Saga became so widespread. At least if people are going to trespass on their property, I think the courteous thing to do is ask first.

I am so proud of Anna Kendrick and where her life has been going since ‘Twilight’. I think it is very difficult to get out there and she came from such a small role and now look at her. I can’t wait to see her more in future films.

Percy Jackson & the Olympians: The Lightning Thief by Rick Riordan
Chapter 2: Three Old Ladies Knit the Socks of Death
Written by Krystal

Percy was used to unusual things happening to him, but the prolonged period of Mrs. Dodds nonexistence was beginning to wear on him. He almost began to believe that Mrs. Kerr had indeed been their pre-algebra teacher since Christmas. He hadn’t had much time to think about what had happened during the day, but at night Mrs. Dodds haunted his nightmares. The strange weather had continued and made Percy cranky, causing him to get into more fights with Nancy. When his grades began to suffer and Percy snapped, the headmaster sent a letter to Mrs. Jackson informing that he would not be welcome back next year. Of course Percy was happy to be going home, but he’d miss Grover and Latin class, and as exams approached it was the only class he cared about anymore.

Read the rest of the summary HERE.

Memorable Quotes:

Percy: Every so often would spring a Mrs. Dodds reference on somebody, just to see if I could trip them up, but they would stare at me like I was psycho. (Page 16)

Mr. Brunner: “Will have to be resolved without him, Grover. Let him enjoy his ignorance while he still can.” (Page 19)

Percy: The only person I dreaded saying good-bye to was Grover, but as it turned out, I didn’t have to. He’d booked a ticket to Manhattan on the same Greyhound as I had, so there we were, together again, heading into the city. (Page 23)

Percy: There were no customers, just three old ladies sitting in rocking chairs in the shade of a maple tree, knitting the biggest pair of socks I’d ever seen. (Page 25)

Grover: “Tell me they’re not looking at you. They are, aren’t they?”
Percy: “Yeah. Weird, huh? You think those socks would fit me?”
Grover: “Not funny, Percy. Not funny at all.” (Page 26)

Questions for discussion:

What do you think Grover and Mr. Brunner were talking about the night before the exam?

Why do you think Grover panicked the minute he saw the three old women and what does the snipping of the yarn represent?

There’s good and bad news for fans of the CW’s Thursday night schedule.  First, the bad news: after this week, both Supernatural and The Vampire Diaries will be taking a five-week hiatus, with reruns filling the Thursday night schedule through the middle of March.

What’s the good news?  When Supernatural and The Vampire Diaries return with new episodes starting March 25, their seasons will finish uninterrupted with eight brand new episodes each.

Read more here

For crying out loud! Just when The Vampire Diaries returns, it goes on hiatus. Are they trying to be like Lost or something? I know Lost doesn’t do that exactly, it just goes away for a year at a time, but absence doesn’t make the heart grow fonder when it comes to television shows, it just makes us forget what the heck is going on. I am not a fan of Supernatural so frankly my dear, I don’t give a darn about that show. But I am sure lots of fan will have gripes.  What are your thoughts?

5 REASONS WHY AVATAR SHOULD NOT WIN BEST PICTURE

The year 2009 was a good year for American cinema, with many laying a good chunk of the recognition at the feet of James Cameron’s sci-fi epic, Avatar. The film has been nominated for nine Academy Awards (including Best Picture and Director), eight British Academy Film Awards, and four Golden Globes. It has also received awards and nominations from over 25 different film associations, and just recently surpassed Cameron’s previous film Titanic as the highest-grossing film of all time worldwide. With such a reputable track record, you would think that it would be a shoo-in for winning Best Picture at the Oscars. Think again.

BENICIO DEL TORO TALKS THE WOLFMAN

Too young to have experienced the theatrical heyday of Universal’s monster stable – the original The Wolfman, directed by George Waggner from a script by Curt Siodmak was released in 1941 – Del Toro became acquainted with the films in a much more intimate way: first seeing them in the flickering light of a home projector.

When I saw The Wolfman or Dracula or The Bride of Frankenstein, it was before VHS or DVD,” said the actor, “and there were these Super 8 films that started [circulating]. I grew up watching those films when I was four, five, six, or seven years old. It was [due to] my cousins.

The genre additionally manifested itself in print for Del Toro, who recalls issues of the granddaddy of all horror magazines, Famous Monsters of Filmland, being in his home, which in turn yielded his ardor for the monster model kits often featured in the ad sections of that mag.

‘UP’ WINS BEST ANIMATED FEATURE AT ANNIES

Pixar’s Up took home the top prize for Best Feature at the 37th Annual Annie Awards, an event that honors the best in animated movies and TV.

The soaring adventure is the favorite for the “Best Animated Feature” Oscar next month, especially since the Annies have predicted the winner seven out of nine times since the category was created in 2002.

Last year DreamWorks’ Kung Fu Panda pulled an upset over Pixar’s Wall-E, but this year the award went to the expected recepient and the only animated film nominated for “Best Picture.”  In fact, Up is only the second entirely animated movie nominated for the top Academy prize since 1991’s Beauty and the Beast.   It’s also nominated for original screenplay, sound editing, and musical score.

CAPTAIN AMERICA WILL BE AN UNKNOWN U.S ACTOR

Good news for those worried that Scottish-born John Barrowman or Australian Sam Worthington might be the guy to put on Captain America’s red-white-and-blue tights: Director Joe Johnston said categorically that he will cast an American in the title role of The First Avenger: Captain America.

Casting an American? Absolutely,” Johnston said in a news conference in Beverly Hills, Calif., on Saturday while promoting his next film, The Wolfman. “Oh, yeah. I don’t think we could make the film without an American playing the part. But we may not be casting in America, because we’re going to London. I think we’ll probably shoot in the U.K. for most of it, because it takes place in Europe. But, yeah, we’ll definitely be casting [an American].”

I agree wholeheartedly with the article on why Avatar should not win Best Picture. If I had to chose just one point, I would chose the lack of original story line. A movie with groundbreaking technology does not a Best Picture make.  Do you think Avatar should win Best Picture? If not, which is your choice?

The beasts look super creepy and we love that.  What do you think of the new Clash of the Titans posters?

I am glad that The Wolfman is adhering to the original film in this manner. CGI is cool, but it is so much more realistic if the actor is encased in 10 hours worth of make-up. It is interesting to see how Del Toro interest in horror began. I simply cannot wait till this movie is released. Just another four days. Are you excited to see The Wolfman? What did you think of the interview?

Congratulations on ‘Up’ winning the Best Animated Feature at the Annies, it was well deserved. What do you think?

I think film fanatics and comic book fans alike would flip out if Captain America were cast with a non-American actor. What a controversy that would be. And if he’s an unknown, no need to guess on who it might be, we’ll just have to wait and see who they cast.

The return of the werewolf

Fur is fashionable again. While vampires dominated last year, it is now the turn of the werewolf. And not just at full moon. Publishers are capitalising on the growing interest, with some, including Mills & Boon, launching new imprints. BBC’s Being Human is enjoying a second series due to the popularity of its lycanthrope, George, and the genre has received a Hollywood boost as The Wolfman, a remake of the 1941 horror classic, opens this Friday.

Bob Powers, co-author of The Werewolf’s Guide to Life: A Manual for the Newly Bitten, thinks the beasts’ current popularity may be because “they reflect a lot of the same struggle people are going through during this recession”. Maybe, Bob. But what are their key characteristics?

How old are werewolf legends?

There is much disagreement within academic circles. In Gaius Petronius’s Latin text Satyricon, usually dated around AD60, dinner guest Niceros tells how a travelling companion stripped off, urinated on his clothes and turned into a werewolf while they were in a cemetery. Andrew Laird, Professor of Classical Literature at Warwick University, said use of werewolves as dinner conversation would suggest such tales may date back even further.

Do The Jonah Hex Reshoots Mean A Bigger Role For Megan Fox?

It was rumored that the Jonah Hex reshoots were required to add additional characters to the film, but the latest set pics make us think that Megan Fox’s hooker-with-a-heart-of-gold role has been fleshed out.

The latest crop of Hex set pics show Josh Brolin and Megan Fox in their fantastic Western attire standing under a Tim Burton-meets-Tombstone umbrella. Fox has previously mentioned that her role was “basically a cameo” but her presence in these reshoot images seem to imply otherwise.

Bill Murray Decides The Fate Of Peter Venkman In Ghostbusters 3

What’s going to happen to Peter Venkman in Ghostbusters 3? We got our first hint from Sigourney Weaver, and now Bill Murray is insisting on it. What’s the plot twist that must happen for Murray to be in Ghostbusters 3?

“I’ll come back in Ghostbusters III only if I get to be a ghost. I said to them, ‘I’ll do it if you kill me off in the first reel.’ So now they are going to have me as a ghost in the film.”

Star Wars’ Owen, Grindhouse girl in The Thing

We’ve got great casting news for that upcoming prequel to John Carpenter’s The Thing: Mary Elizabeth Winstead (Grindhouse, Scott Pilgrim vs. The World) and Joel Edgerton (Uncle Owen in Star Wars: Episode III—Revenge of the Sith) will star.

That’s the news from The Hollywood Reporter’s Heat Vision blog:
Winstead will play a Ph.D. candidate who joins a Norwegian research team in Antarctica after it discovers an alien ship in the ice. When a trapped organism is freed and begins a series of attacks, she is forced to team with a blue-collar mercenary helicopter pilot (Edgerton) to stop the rampage.

Wow, I had no idea that werewolf legends were that old. Did you?

What do you think of Megan Fox’s cameo in Jonah Hex being expanded? I’m not too fond of her as an actress, but I know the guys love to see her – less as much clothing as possible.

LOL@Venkman being a ghost in the 3rd one. What do you think of that?

The Thing sounds interesting, do you think it will be good?
