Rose M. Welch points us to the news that Summit Entertainment has won an injunction against the makers of a Twilight fanzine, claiming that the zine was not for journalistic purposes. A journalist would have a strong free speech claim on the right to make use of these photos (which were found on the “press” page for the movie itself), but Summit claims that the zine is not journalism, but a business. To be fair, it is true that the creators of the zine is a company that sells trading cards, but does that mean that a fanzine is suddenly no longer protected by the First Amendment?

I am not surprised by this. Summit Entertainment has always been very protective when it comes to anything Twilight. What are your thoughts?

Twilight’ Actress Gives Special Gift to Quileute Children
Actress Tinsel Korey, who plays a supporting role in the film, “The Twilight Saga: New Moon,” gave a Christmas treat to all of the students at the Quileute Tribal School.
Each student received a personally autographed photo from Korey.
September visit
Korey had visited LaPush and Neah Bay in September to talk about acting with the students at the tribal schools.
In the movie, Korey plays Emily, who is the girlfriend of Sam Uley, who is the “alpha” in the werewolf pack.
The werewolves developed in the series to protect humans from vampires.
The books focus on star-crossed lovers Bella, a human, and Edward, a vampire — who feeds only on animal blood.
“Tinsel autographed the photos after her visit in the fall for each student, and I wanted them to receive them for a special occasion,” said Jackie Jacobs, tribal publicist.
Twilight Speculation About the Eclipse Trailer Debut
Now that Twilight and New Moon are cinematic history, Twilight Saga attention has shifted to the Twilight Saga Eclipse, which is currently being edited under the Twilight direction of David Slade. The big question surrounding Eclipse that fans of Twilight andNew Moon want to know is when the Eclipse trailer will make its debut.
Early Twilight Saga speculation has it that the Twilight Saga Eclipse trailer will appear during the broadcast of the Academy Awards on March 7. Why and where the Eclipse trailer speculation comes from is anyone’s Twilight guess since Summit Entertainment hasn’t rolled out marketing for Eclipse. With such a big event like the Oscars, why not guess thatthe Eclipse trailer will make its debut at such a widely viewed broadcast? Does the Twilight Saga Eclipse fit with an Oscar audience? Since so much of New Moon was rolled out at events like the Teen Choice Awards and the multiple MTV awards, the Academy Awards ceremony feels out of place in relation to the audience of Eclipse. But that’s just us …
Jackson Rathbone to Raise Cancer Awareness in Tribute Concert
Jackson Rathbone will soon prove that he is aware of health issues. In April 2010, the Jasper Hale of “Twilight Saga” film series and his band 100 Monkeys will fly to Texas to host a concert which aims to raise awareness of adrenal cancer.
At the upcoming gig, Jackson and 100 Monkeys are going to pay tribute to musician Spencer Bell, who passed away in December 2006 after suffering adrenal cancer. They will join The Stevedores, Drew and the Medicinal Pen, and Tin Tin Can to participate at the concert that will include playing several songs from Spencer’s albums.
New Moon Earns Top Spot for Most Mistakes in 2009
Maybe Twilight Saga: New Moon is not as perfect as we all thought, but we’ll still love it anyways! MovieMistakes.com ranked the top 15 Biggest Movie Mistakes of 2009 and New Moon tied for fourth with 29 mistakes. Could be worse though, Zack Efron’s 17 Again was No. 1 with 94 mistakes!
The site lists some of the New Moon mistakes that you may not have noticed the first time around.
“When Bella is in the parking lot at school in the beginning, Edward walks toward her. Bella’s hair is neatly pulled off to the side,” one of the mistakes posted said. “When he leans in for the kiss it is suddenly stuck to her forehead, and when Edward tells her Jacob wants her, it’s suddenly back to normal.”
Aww…I think that it’s really sweet that Tinsel Korey took the time to personalize each autograph for the kids at the tribal school.
I would love for the Eclipse trailer to run during the Oscars broadcast – that’s several days before Remember Me opens and I’m banking on the trailer running before that movie, seeing how the Remember Me trailer went to theaters when New Moon opened.
I love that Jackson’s band is using their fame to honor their friend and raise awareness for a deadly disease. That says a lot about the guy in my book – using his fame to change things and not acting like a Hollywood punk.
As far as the movie mistakes go, it doesn’t change how much I loved the movie. And…29 looks pretty good when you consider that the #2 and #3 spots on the list had 71 mistakes each!

MCG ANNOUNCES TWO MORE TERMINATOR MOVIES, REALITY MAY HAVE OTHER PLANS

Last night, Gizmodo’s Jason Chen listened to director McG’s Blu-Ray livecommentary for Terminator Salvation so that you didn’t have to. You can read the whole thing here, but if you’re in a rush, here’re the, uh, highlights.
Apparently oblivious to the fact that the franchise is up for sale and no-one knows who future owners will be or what they’ll want, McG announced that he’ll make two more Terminator movies, the first of which will feature Sarah Connor, even though “he’s not sure how he’s going to pull that off.”

DELAYS DON’T MEAN ‘THE WOLFMAN’ SUCKS. REALLY.
Universal Pictures’ remake of The Wolf Man was originally supposed to come out Nov. 12, 2008. Even if it had come out on Feb. 13, April 3 or Nov. 6 of this year, when it was tentatively rescheduled, we would have seen it by now. It is finally coming out on Feb. 12, 2010, after some additional shooting. But co-star Emily Blunt says it’s still the film she set out to make two years ago.

“Not much [changed],” Blunt said in a group interview Friday in Los Angeles, where she was promoting The Young Victoria. “I mean, we did additional shooting, but I hear it’s great.”

SUMMIT BRINGING US A REAL VAMPIRE MOVIE WITH A DRACULA REMAKE, VLAD

Summit just can’t quit those vampires. The studio is apparently working on their own action-heavy Dracula remake, entitled Vlad, with a script by actor Charlie Hunnam. After loving the guy on Undeclared, Children of Men, and Sons of Anarchy, a vampire script from Hunnam comes as a bit of a surprise. Music video director Anthony Mandler is in negotiations to direct, and Brad Pitt is producing via Plan B along with Dede Gardner. Not surprisingly, the film will apparently center on Dracula as the young prince Vlad.

FILMS BASED ON SCI-FI SHORTS

I love short fiction! Nothing personal against the novel. I’ve read a few myself and have my favorites, but nothing appeals to my personal philosophy of “less is more” than a well-written and concise short story. For anyone who has worked on a production of a 30-second TV commercial, you know that shorter does not necessarily mean easier. 30 seconds may not be much time, but you’ve still got to tell a story and have it make sense. Here lies the challenge. It’s generally more difficult to tell a great story in a very limited amount of words than it is in a novel with virtually no limitations on it’s length.

JOHNNY DEPP AND TIM BURTON TO SHOOT ‘DARK SHADOWS’ NEXT FALL

Earlier this year we asked Tim Burton about his upcoming adaptation of “Dark Shadows,” the ’60s soap opera with a vampire protagonist and a generally supernatural edge. Before thateven, we heard from both Burton and his intended “Shadows” star Johnny Depp that the TV adaptation would shoot next year.
Now we have an even more specific time frame to work with. Speaking to producer Graham King, Sci Fi Wire has learned that production will start on “Shadows” late next year.

Since Terminator Salvation was such a hit I doubt they will have any problem finding a buyer for the franchise. What do you think?
I don’t know about you but ‘Dark Void’ has some nuances that remind me of the TV series ‘Lost’; being stuck in a parallel universe and people acting like gods….hmmmm. Regardless it sounds like it would be an interesting flick. Even though it’s not a brand new concept since they’d be adapting the story from a video game, it sure beats all these reboots that are coming out. How do you feel about movies based on video games?
The public at large does not base a movies quality on its release date. We just want to see the darn film already. It will speak for itself when it is finally released, and I for one, cannot wait.
At last, a vampire movie based on the historical origins of Dracula and with a ‘300′ stylistic approach. Wow. I’m sold.
I really enjoy knowing where the concept for a film comes from, because most of the time it brings a broader understanding and deeper level of appreciation for the film. Do you feel the same or do you really not care as long as you enjoy the film?
Yey! More Tim Burton and Johnny Depp! I can’t get enough of these two especially when they collaborate. Tim Burton can do no wrong in my book. I recently had the opportunity to see Tim Burton’s Exhibit at MoMA in New York last week and the man is a genius (I highly recommend going if your in the area). It will be interesting to see how he takes on the genre of the vampire with ‘Dark Shadows’. Are you excited to see his interpretation on vampires?

OBS SPEAKS OUT: A NEW MOON DVD EXTRAS WISH LIST
Author: ifellhard | Filed under: News Blog, OBS Speaks OutNew Moon has been in the theaters for just over two weeks and the talk about the DVD release is already underway with speculation and hopes for the deleted and extended scenes and other special features. In interviews before the release of New Moon, director Chris Weitz stated that he actually had about four hours of footage to work with for the final cut of the film. With that said, that could make for some very interesting extended and deleted scenes.
MTV.com recently reported that Chris, Taylor, Robert, and Kristen will soon be in a recording studio to record the audio commentary, so we know that we will be graced with that feature on the DVD. That’s one of the things that I love about the Twilight DVD. The way that Robert keeps cracking jokes (especially his obsession about his eyebrows) makes Catherine Hardwicke’s chatter worth watching it. I think that it will be interesting to hear what he says in this one, especially since he’s in only about 10% of it.
They also reported that the DVD will include of “Twilight in Forks”, the independent documentary that Summit bought the rights to earlier this year. Chris Weitz also stated that there would be about twenty minutes of deleted material for the fans to enjoy. Having already seen the movie, we are well-aware of what isn’t in the final cut of the film. Drawing on some of the comments and wishful thinking shared by fans in our forum, here’s a compilation of some of the scenes that we could hope to see in those twenty minutes.
*Perhaps one of the most loved and endearing quotes of the entire Twilight Saga was not in the movie and I know that many fans hope that it was, at least, filmed and not cut out of the movie completely…“Before you, Bella, my life was like a moonless night. Very dark, but there were stars – points of light and reason. …And then you shot across my sky like a meteor. Suddenly everything was on fire; there was brilliancy, there was beauty. When you were gone, when the meteor had fallen over the horizon, everything went black. Nothing had changed, but my eyes were blinded by the light. I couldn’t see the stars anymore. And there was no more reason for anything.”
*The conversation that Charlie and Alice have while Bella’s sleeping on the couch and he pours his heart out to her and Bella learns that she hasn’t been fooling anyone.
*Sam asking Bella if she’d been hurt with the follow-up from Dr. Gerandy. They worked around it with the meaningful looks between Sam and Harry, but the tweaking of the question in the books was so significant.
*Jacob learning how Bella got the scar on her arm and the fact that Edward saved her from becoming a vampire.
*The Cullens meeting Alice, Bella, and Edward at the airport – especially when Alice and Jasper are reunited. Rosalie’s apology wouldn’t have really fit here since they worked it into “the vote”, but the way that the Cullens reacted as a real family and the intense love that goes beyond words between Alice and Jasper would be amazing to see on the screen.
*Charlie going ballistic on Edward when they return from Italy and they bring Bella home.
*Edward giving Bella the CD with her lullaby on it for her birthday.
*Bella looking for the CD and pictures after Edward leaves.
*Bella’s epiphany about why she had the hallucinations before the vote.
*Edward, Bella and Esme before they go in the house to vote. Esme has so few moments in the books and it seems like she keeps getting the short end of the stick when it comes to getting her moment to sparkle.
*Edward storming out and breaking the plasma screen TV during the vote scene.
*Alice and Bella’s conversation in the airplane and Bella telling her, “Bite me, Alice!”
*Bella, Alice, and Edward having to wait in the lobby in Volterra and Alice saying, “I think she is having hysterics, maybe you should slap her.”
*Bella going to the Cullens house trying to find some evidence of Edward and seeing the house empty.
*Bella ripping out the radio in the truck, and then having to explain what happened to Edward when he finds it in the black bag in her closet.
What about you? What deleted or extended scenes are you hoping to see when the DVD comes out in the next few months? Are you glad that they’re doing another audio commentary? Are these special features important to you when you purchase DVDs?

OBS SPEAKS OUT: MIDNIGHT CONFESSIONS OF A TWILIGHT MOM
Author: ifellhard | Filed under: News Blog, OBS Speaks OutI’m 38. I’m a mom. I love Twilight. So, what better place for me to spend the night of November 19th than the local theater? Being a latecomer to the world of “Twilight” and completely oblivious to everything last year, I didn’t know exactly what to expect going to a midnight showing of “New Moon”. The thing that surprised me the most was how anxious and excited I was all day long on Thursday. I had adrenaline coursing through my veins from the time I woke up until the time I finally went to bed around 4:00 the following morning. I was jittery and bouncing around like Alice Cullen on a shopping spree all day. Considering my age and the fact that I take care of two little kids all day long, I feared getting too comfortable at home because I didn’t want to get sleepy before I headed to the theater. When I learned that my theater was doing a screening of “Twilight” at 9:00, I logged onto Fandango and bought a ticket. I was thrilled that I would already have a nice, comfortable seat in one of the theaters instead of sitting on the cold tile floor in the crowded lobby for hours.
I wondered what the night would be like – would I be the freaky “old lady” in a sea of tweens and teens or would there be others like me. I found that there were, indeed, plenty of others of “my kind” in attendance that night. Seeing how the next day was a school day and my town has a curfew for teens, the teens and tweens were greatly outnumbered for the midnight showing at my theater. I was pleasantly surprised to see that the majority of the people there were in their 20s, 30s, 40s, and even their 50s. I saw several men as well – some rockin’ cloaks like a bunch of Volturi wannabes. There were even a couple of guys dressed like Felix and Demetri.
This being my first big Twilight Saga event, I quickly learned how everyone is so friendly with one another. Being a people watcher, it was an interesting study in human nature for me. No one seemed to be judgmental of anyone else that evening. People were extraordinarily pleasant. I didn’t witness the usual cattiness that tends to arise whenever more than two women are gathered in one place. Everyone was there for a common cause, regardless of whether you were Team Edward or Team Jacob. That night, it was Team Twilight. To paraphrase Sam Uley, it’s like we’re all “good with weird.”
Before the previews began for New Moon, the atmosphere inside the theater was like a party. Women and girls were checking out one another’s Twilight-themed shirts, jewelry, etc. There were discussions about what we didn’t like about the first movie and what we hoped to see in this installment. We talked about the cast appearances on the various talk shows during the week. The lights dimmed and the shhhh-ing began. What was once a raucous crowd grew quiet…until the trailer for “Remember Me” appeared on the screen and the ooh-ing and ahh-ing over our beloved Robert Pattinson kicked into gear. A russet brown Summit Entertainment logo appeared on the screen and the crowd became as silent as a bunch of church mice.
Once the movie was underway, it was only a matter of time before the catcalls and squeals began. One of the many things that I wondered about myself was whether I would be among the viewers who participated in such things. I got my answer when Edward walked out of the trees into the meadow in Bella’s dream. It wasn’t a crazed fangirl scream, but I did let out a little catcall.
I don’t know how I managed, but I was able to observe the crowd around me and watch the movie. One of the many things that jumped out at me was how big of a following Jasper has. There was a group of about 25 women sitting behind me that went absolutely batsh*t when Jasper first appeared on screen. The other thing that really surprised me was how many grown women went absolutely off-the-charts batsh*t when Jacob was shirtless. The demographics of my particular theater were probably 80% women and 20% tweens and teens. It was easy to discern from the tenor of the screams who the catcalls and squeals were coming from and it wasn’t the 20%. It’s not that I don’t appreciate Taylor’s body and all of the work that he put into getting the role of Jacob, but I cannot get past the fact that he’s still just 17. He’s jailbait! I just cannot see that boy as a sex symbol – I’m old enough to be his mother and so were the women who were squealing like fangirls and letting out the catcalls. One of my friends kept saying, “I just can’t see him like that – he’s Sharkboy!”
The movie continued and I clapped and cheered when Alice returned. I think that I probably might have even been blushing when a shirtless Edward appeared on screen. I clapped and cheered when Edward proposed and I let out a, “Nooooooooo!!!” along with the rest of the audience when the screen went to black.
I rolled out of the theater at 2:30 AM with a few thousand of my closest friends, drove home to a quiet house with my family sound asleep and I was too keyed up to sleep. I finally conked out around 4:00 AM and was up again by 7:00 AM to send my kids off to school. After getting the kids to school, I promptly sent a message to my little posse of Twilight Moms telling them that they must mark the night of June 29th, 2010 as a night for the dads take over (or we ship off all of the kids for a couple of days) so that we can go to the midnight showing of “Eclipse”. I’m sure that it will be a completely different experience since school will be out for the summer, and I am already looking forward to it (especially since it has more Edward)!
Stop by our forum to tell us about your midnight viewing experience – was it difficult to hear the movie for the fans screaming? Did you see people in costume? Were the teens and tweens outnumbered by the “older women” and were men well-represented in your audience?
