TWILIGHT SAGA NEWS FOR MARCH 30TH: NEW STEPHENIE MEYER NOVELLA, MTV AWARDS, BILLY BURKE

STEPHENIE MEYER TO PUBLISH “ECLIPSE” NOVELLLA

Never say that Stephenie Meyer won’t return to the world of vampires!  USA Today reports today that a new Stephenie Meyer book from the world of “Twilight” will hit stores at 12:01 AM on June 5.  The novella, The Short Second Life of Bree Tanner: An Eclipse Novella, tells the story of newborn vampire Bree Tanner.

The Short Second Life of Bree Tanner: An Eclipse Novella will be released at 12:01 a.m. June 5.

The 192-page story, an offshoot of the third novel in Meyer’s best-selling teen vampire Twilight saga, has a first printing of 1.5 million. It’s the first new Twilight title since Breaking Dawn, Book 4, was published two years ago.

The new novella is told in the voice of the teenage Bree, a “newborn vampire” whom we meet on page 569 in Eclipse. Ten pages later, she’s dead.

“I started writing this a long time ago,” Meyer said in an exclusive interview with USA TODAY. “It was when I was editing Eclipse. It was more of just an exercise so I could be clear about what was going on in the story.”

Stephenie Meyer has also taken to her website to share the news with fans and had this to say about the book:

This story was something that I worked on off and on for a while, just for fun, in between the times I was writing or editing other Twilight novels. Later, when the concept for The Twilight Saga: The Official Guide came up, I thought that might be a good place for Bree. Her story is a nice complement to Eclipse; it explains a lot of the things that Bella never knew. So I dusted it off and finished it up for placement in the Guide.

At the same time, it came in handy for the Eclipse film. Melissa (Rosenberg, the screenwriter) had a ton of questions about what exactly was going on in Seattle, how Victoria managed things, what Riley was like, etc. I let her read what I had then, and later gave the whole thing to the director, David Slade. David asked if Xavier, Bryce, and Jodelle (Riley, Victoria, and Bree) could read it as well, so all the parties involved would end up having a really strong foundation for their characters before the cameras started rolling. I was pleased that this side of the story would make it into the film and was looking forward to including it in the Guide.

QUOTES THAT BELONG IN “THE TWILIGHT SAGA: ECLIPSE” MOVIE

from gather.com:

‘The Twilight Saga: Eclipse’ is the most anticipated movie in recent months and everyone wants to know what it’s going to be like and will it live up to expectations. The trailer has been released, the poster has been released and now we are all aching for a little something else from Summit Entertainment.

‘Eclipse’ isn’t being released until June 30th and I don’t have a script but these are the quotes from the book that I hope make it into the movie:

1. “Staring into his eyes always made me feel extraordinary — sort of like my bones were turning spongy. I was also a little lightheaded, but that could have been because I’d forgotten to keep breathing. Again.” -Bella Swan (Eclipse Chapter 1, page 17).

2. “I don’t know how to phrase this properly. It’s going to sound cruel, I suppose. But I’ve come too close to losing you in the past. I know what it feels like to think I have. I am not going to tolerate anything dangerous.” -Edward Cullen (Eclipse Chapter 1, page 33).

BILLY BURKE: TWILIGHT HOTEL LIKE A “COMPOUND”

from belfasttelegraph.co.uk:

Billy Burke has revealed that it’s chaotic on the sets of the Twilight films, because there are always fans trying to get close to Robert Pattinson and Kristen Stewart.

“There’s loads of fans always trying to be on set – the hotel itself was a bit like a compound; it was surrounded 24-7 by fans and paparazzi,” he said.

So, Stephenie mentioned The Twilight Saga: The Official Guide in her comments about the novella.  As we are all very aware, the Guide was originally scheduled to be released well over a year ago and we haven’t heard much, if anything, about it.  Could it be possible that this is a nice little teaser for something big coming down the pike…like the long-awaited release of the Guide?  It’s genius timing for the novella to come out at the beginning of June when the Eclipse movie hype gets into full-swing, but is there more?  I won’t even begin to speculate on Midnight Sun, but could the Guide finally be a reality in the near future?

Go vote for your Twilight stars and films on MTV’s site!  I hate that Kristen and Robert have multiple nominations in the same category because it really sets them up for failure when you do the math because their votes will be split between the two films.

What do you think of Gather.com’s quotes that belong in the film?  We’ll be working on our own list as we get closer to the release date of the movie.  If you have one that you feel belongs on such a list, please pop over to the forum and share it!

I imagine that Billy Burke’s assessment of the hotel being like a “compound” probably isn’t far off the mark.  They have been forced to use some pretty sneaky cloak and dagger tactics to protect the location of the cast and where they are shooting.
