Review
Sonya had been planning her wedding to Samson, when he dumped her and left her for another woman.
Now she’s decided to treat herself to a trip to Prague. She’s never flown First Class before and she’s excited about all the amenities it offers. However, she did not expect it to include the handsome silver fox that sat in the seat across from her. And, when her anxiety hit with the storm they flew through, he had interesting ways of distracting her. He wanted her to spend some time with him in Prague, but she fled when she discovered his name. Matvei Volkov, bratva kingpin of Chicago.
However, Matvei is not quite done with Sonya. He has her looked into and finds that she is a successful lawyer that helps abused women get out of their difficult marriages. And, she is his half-brother’s ex.
Matvei goes to Sonya with a proposal. Go with him to Samson’s wedding, make his brother jealous seeing her on his arm, wearing his family jewels that Samson has always coveted. And, Matvei will give her the money she needs to open her own law firm.
It should have been a simple business transaction; Sonya wrote out the contract herself. But when the wedding is over, their obligations filled, neither are quite ready to part ways. And, another attempt on Sonya’s life gives Matvei all the fuel he needs to prolong their association. He promised her safety, and he will definitely provide it. If only she would allow him to protect her as he sees fit …
This is the second book I read from this series. And, it was a vast improvement over the first one, Savage King. Although it may not look like it was since I gave them both the same rating. I do feel I was a bit generous on the rating with Savage King though, this book truly earned it though. I’m not saying this book was perfect, by any means, but it was definitely better.
I think both books did have similar flaws. They both suffered from predictability. The Better Brother was less predictable, but I still figured out the mastermind behind the plot against Sonya and Matvei. And it feels like the author has a set formula for these books. Girl meets dangerous bratva kingpin, who happens to be related to her ex. Girl and bratva kingpin have wild unprotected sex that results in her getting pregnant. Their enemies try to kill the girl, which he will eventually have to save her from. And the happily ever after seems to result with another pregnancy. Oh, and someone close to her starts growing feelings for one of his top men.
I would like to see the author switch it up a bit, make things less expected. I can only read the same story so many times after all.
