Review:
I remember when I was in my Twilight era … many many moons ago. I couldn’t get enough of it. And, I remember reading the leaked chapters of this book (bad *slaps hand*, I know) and thinking that they were so much better than Twilight. Then, we had the whole drama were if felt like the author was punishing the fans for having read the chapters that someone, I’d assume, who was on her staff, leaked. She said in interviews that she wasn’t going to work on it or release it until everyone had forgotten about it. Then, she wrote other craptastic additions to the series like, The Short Second Life of Bree Tanner, instead of the book everyone wanted. So, when this book finally did release, I was in no rush to read it. And, I was determined not to give her any money when I did read it. So, I checked this book out at my local library instead of buying it. And, I’m honestly so glad I did.
I don’t know what happened between the time I read those leaked chapters and now. I thought it was so great back then, but I STRUGGLED reading this now. Edward would just go on and on and on about the most mundane of things. The chapters dragged on forever and the chapters and the book, as a whole, felt never-ending. And, of course we knew how things would work out since it is a re-telling of Twilight. And, I swear if I ‘hear’ him mention pomegranate seeds one more time, I’m throwing this massive sized book at something or someone. I really don’t even understand the reference; it got lost in my boredom.
I found that Bella came off as even more bratty and whiny in this book, then she did in the original. I’m unsure how that’s even possible. I really did earn a new appreciation for Rosalie in this book. I understand her point-of-view so much more now.
Anyway, I’m happy the book is over and I can close out this chapter of my life once and for all. I do wish I had ended things on better terms, but I’m just glad it’s over now. I do wonder if I’d hate the original four books as bad as I did this one, if I went back to them. They are sitting somewhere in my basement collecting dust. However, it’s not an experiment I’m willing to play with right now.
