Review
Symbologist Robert Langdon finds himself rushing to our nation’s capital to do a favor for a friend. The speaker Peter Solomon had lined up for his big Smithsonian event bailed last minute. So, he asked if Robert would be willing to jump on a flight and fill in. Robert agrees and finds himself rushing to Washington D.C.
However, things are not as they seem. When Robert gets there, the place is nearly empty, there is no event going on. He quickly finds out he was not only tricked into coming to D.C. by someone pretending to be Peter’s assistant, but he was also tricked into bringing a small package that Peter had entrusted to him for safe keeping.
Peter has been taken by a madman. And, they may have to do exactly what he wants in order to save Peter’s life. The CIA is on the case and they make it clear that Peter’s life is not their priority. Robert is on his own if he wants to save his friend, and he may just have to be on the run from his own government too.
Will Robert be able to outwit the CIA. and solve the legendary puzzle Peter’s captor has tasked him with? Or will he be too late to save his long-time friend?
It has been a long time since I read The Da Vinci Code so I can’t remember how I felt about it when I was reading it. I do remember liking the first book of the series, Angels and Demons more though. And, I sadly must admit that I didn’t really care for this book. It read at an excruciatingly slow pace for me. And, it also felt a bit too preachy at the end.
There was a decent twist that I hadn’t expected, but that was the only good thing I found in this book. And, sadly after that it still trudged on for quite a while and I just wanted it to be over, at that point. I may have to admit that this series just might not be for me anymore.
However, my husband and daughter are getting ready to go on a trip to D.C. for her school and I think the movie may be something interesting for them to watch before they go with all the symbolism in D.C.
Notes:
The twist: The madman was believed to be the man that killed Peter’s son Zachary in a Turkish prison, but the madman actually was Zachary. He paid off the warden and they found a prisoner that was close to his size and beat him to death and passed off as him.
Zachary was killed with the CIA’s helicopter shatter a window above him in the Masonic temple.
