Twilight Series Not Making the Millions it Could Be
Entertainment moguls are always finding ways to extend their bucks and rake in the millions, or billions, in revenue from side projects on the same brand name. Harry Potter is a great example of a brand name that has made billions in sales on books, movies, action figures, costumes, a new theme park and one other important profit trick.
What does J.K. Rowling’s series have that Stephanie Meyer’s doesn’t? Video games. The Harry Potter series is placed in a more pseudo world of sub-human creatures and adventures, but the Twilight series isn’t lacking in the creature and adventure department.
Extremely good-looking vampires and wolves are just as fun to play around with virtually as they are to read about and watch in movies. The video game market allows fans to use their imagination even more and role-play with the famous characters.
How Much is Twilight Losing?
MCV reports the brand is losing millions in profits because it doesn’t have a video game yet.
“Given how hot a property it is, Twilight could easily present a seven-figure exploitation opportunity, especially if publishers look at taking it beyond retail gaming and considers network gaming,” Games Investor Consulting analyst Nick Gibson has told MCV.
Given that the Twilight series books and movies have already made millions of dollars, a video game is just another way for a handful of already rich people, to make even more money. Stephanie Meyer and J.K. Rowling however, are both responsible for inspiring reading and creativity in generations of people, making their lump profits worthy.
Video games are a great way for fans to continue their love of favorite characters in ways that aren’t possible with only books and movies. Harry Potter video games allow players to explore Hogwarts castle, eat in the dining hall and fight bad creatures or other characters with wands and magic.
The twilight series could definitely tap into the same tools by fighting other vampires, exploring the cloudy setting and even having to choose between a vampire or a werewolf for love.
