Synopsis: Unwrapped

GOOD THINGS COME IN SEXY PACKAGES . . .
Jacqueline Maguire has a problem tying the knot. After fleeing the altar (again), the runaway bride drives off with no particular destination in mind. Which is how Jac finds herself stranded in a snowstorm with a hot, hard-bodied stranger who treats her to the naughtiest night of her life . . . but come morning, he’s long gone.

Contractor Patrick McPherson is deeply committed to his bachelor lifestyle. No strings, no rings. As the Christmas season approaches, however, Patrick still can’t quite forget his curvalicious one-night stand. Then Jac shows up unexpectedly, and all holiday hell breaks loose. Because this year, Patrick is getting the biggest Christmas surprise of his life.

Review:

Unwrapped is a delightful read.  This is the third book in the Hunk for the Holidays series and the second book that I have read in this series.  I am happy to report that I found this read had sufficient depth, intriguing moments and fun to hold my attention throughout the story.

This is fiction and as such…I expect things like the unimaginable or unexpected….case in point…Jacqueline running away from yet another wedding…then as a result of a swerving to miss a deer or was it Bigfoot? …she runs over a signpost and is stranded, in her wedding dress.  So what is a girl to do…but search out help?  Jacqueline stumbles across a dilapidated cabin, where she seeks refuge….Pounding on the door it is finally swung open and there is a man wearing nothing but a kilt in the doorway.  So picture a woman in a gorgeous wedding dress facing a man (a gorgeous, tall man – named Patrick) in only a kilt and fangs!    And from here…the sparks fly.  As the synopsis states…the two have one naughty, hot night.  Very sexy!!! Then the next day…each go back to their own lives with this one hot one night stand between them.  Now if these first few chapters do not draw you in…I don`t know what will.

Jacqueline and Patrick are not the only “characters” in this story.  I loved Aunt Wheezie (Patrick`s aunt). She is forever playing match maker as she really wants to see Patrick in love and settled before she dies.  Meanwhile, Jacqueline is back home and is still searching for a husband to fulfill the stipulation in her Aunt Frances`s will in order for her to inherit some serious money!

There are a few sub plots, which I would rather not mention in detail as I feel it would take away from your enjoyment of discover, if you will, of the story lines.  Suffice it to say…all very well written and certainly entertaining.  And definitely some shocking ‘ah ha’ moments.

While the road to true love (and a big inheritance) is not smooth, it is definitely entertaining.  Bailey (Jacqueline`s sister) had a valid point…:

Bailey was right. If her plan was to marry for her aunt`s money, why wouldn`t she choose a man who made her sizzle?”

Earlier, I alluded to depth as a vital component to my enjoyment of a book…well….Jacqueline certainly had depth…and this passage cemented that for me:

Patrick states “Okay, I admit it. I`m a comfort-kind of guy.  But what I can`t figure out is how a snooty rich girl became a comfort-food cook.”

“My Granny Lou knew how much I loved to cook and got me a subscription to Taste of Home magazine for my seventh birthday.”

“`Seven? You started cooking when you were seven? Where were your mother and father?”

She stopped cutting and hesitated for a moment before answering.  “My father left before I was born, and my mama was gone most of the time. So I cooked for Bailey and me.”

She went back to slicing, leaving Patrick floundering.

Love the cover art 🙂   Who wouldn’t want to wake up with a view like that?

Thank you Katie Lane for penning such a wonderful read that drew me into another world while consuming the story.  I truly enjoy Ms. Lane`s writing style and ease of storytelling.  She literally made the characters come to life for me.  I am already looking forward to book #4 in the series…if there is one?  Even if there is not another book, I will go back and read book #1.
