TWILIGHT SAGA NEWS JUNE 30TH: ECLIPSE, STEPHENIE MEYER, KRISTEN STEWART & MORE

‘Eclipse’ Sets Records, Earns More Than $30 Million Overnight

www.gossipcop.com: It was a total Eclipse from the start.

The blockbuster third installment of The Twilight Saga opened to more than $30 million on its first night in North America.

It surpasses the previous midnight opening record holder, which was the second Twilight installment, New Moon, at $26.3 million.

It’s too early to know whether Eclipse will top New Moon’s (full) first day record of $72.7 million.

The movie also set a new IMAX record for midnight grosses with over $1 million from 192 theaters, beating Transformers 2’s $959,000.

‘Twilight’ Author Stephenie Meyer Talks ‘Midnight Sun,’ Potential Spin-Offs

When MTV News caught up with “Twilight” author Stephenie Meyer at the “Eclipse” premiere in Los Angeles last week, she reiterated that her “burned-out on vampires” sentiments are still preventing her from finishing “Midnight Sun.”

“I don’t know if there are spin-off books,” she said. “We’re doing the guide, and a lot of those backstories I was telling [screenwriter] Melissa [Rosenberg] about, that’s where the source is. … I think a lot of those stories will be out there with the guide — not in a very long version, but I think, in a way, people feel like they know all those stories.”

www.examiner.com: While the ‘Twilight Saga: Eclipse,’ is being shown in movie theaters in Detroit and all over the country, Kristen Stewart is ready to emerge from ‘Twilight’ and step into the role of Marylou, Dean Moriarty’s young blonde wife, in the film based on Jack Kerouac’s novel, On the Road. The independent film will be produced by Francis Ford Coppola and directed Walter Salles. The shooting of the film will take place in Canada but will not begin until after a month-long beatnik boot camp in Montreal, Quebec where the cast will learn about the beat movement’s history according to MTV.com.

On the Road is a story about newly married Dean Moriarty, just released from jail in the winter of 1947, comes to New York City where he meets Sal Paradise, a young writer with an intellectual group of friends and their three years traveling across the country. Kerouac’s novel was instrumental in defining the beatnik generation.

Tinsel Korey Exclusive Interview THE TWILIGHT SAGA: ECLIPSE

In The Twilight Saga: Eclipse, actress Tinsel Korey reprises her role as Emily Young, the fiancee of Wolf Pack alpha Sam Uley (Chaske Spencer). As part of another love triangle in the film – this one between Emily, Sam and his ex, Leah Clearwater (Julia Jones) – the storyline brings a heightened tension to an already more intense film.

Question: How did you originally get involved with the Twilight films? Did you just go on an audition?

Tinsel: Yeah. My little sister told me about the Twilight books and what a big fan she was. She said, “It’s like Harry Potter in love,” which it’s not. So, when the audition came up, I wanted to get the film for her. It was great because I got to take her to the premiere. She got all dolled up and was treated like a princess for the day. But, yeah, it was just the regular audition process. There were a couple people telling me about it and that they were looking for the actors, but my manager is pretty good at sorting that out. And, (casting director) Rene Haynes cast me in Into the West, and she’s always kept in touch and been a real big supporter of my career.

What was the make-up process like for you?

Tinsel: After the make-up process, I was like, “I never want to do a sci-fi movie where I’m in make-up for seven months.” It’s interesting. It was my first time ever getting prosthetics. They put this goopy stuff all over your head and they tell you it’s like a facial, but it’s actually very claustrophobic. All they have are these places where your nostrils are and I kept thinking that they were closing up, but they were like, “No, we’re looking at it.” So, they made a mold of my face.

The first make-up crew had three test runs, so by the time we were shooting, they got it down to three hours. They switched make-up crews for Eclipse and they never had any test runs, and they had to figure out what the other team had done, so the first day, I was in the chair for eight hours. But, they adjusted the scar from New Moon to Eclipse. The first time, there was more pullage on my face, so I had a hard time eating. It didn’t hurt, but it was uncomfortable.

Taylor Lautner on Swapping Spit with Robert Pattinson

Debbie VanStory/IPHOTO

The real danger on the set of The Twilight Saga: Eclipse didn’t involve vampires or werewolves. It was all the flying saliva.

“We’re always like an inch away from each other’s faces, screaming at each other, spitting at each other in the face. It gets a little awkward,” Taylor Lautner told PEOPLE of costar Robert Pattinson at Monday’s Cinema Society and Piaget-hosted screening of their latest Twilight film in New York.

Did Pattinson have to duck any major projectiles? “Not anything super dramatic,” Lautner says, “but I’m sure he caught a couple splats.”

‘Twilight’ Vs. ‘The Last Airbender’: Jackson Rathbone’s Characters Face Off!

Jackson Rathbone is a busy guy these days. With featured roles in not one but two of this week’s biggest releases, the “Twilight Saga: Eclipse” and “The Last Airbender” actor is doing the press rounds and fielding questions from just about every media outlet in the world.

Don’t worry, though, MTV News still managed to ask him the most important question of them all: Who would win in a fight between his boomerang-wielding “Airbender” character Sokka and his “Twilight” vampire Jasper?

Wow, $30 Million! That is so great. I don’t want to read any reviews yet (I’m seeing the movie tonight) but just of bits of what I’ve heard, eclipse is really good. So maybe it might pass the $ 72.7, the theater I’ll be seeing it already had no more tickets left. It’s also interesting that some of the twilight cast auditioned for roles just because of someone they knew already had read the books and liked the series. The same thing happened with Michael Sheen’s daughter and friends of Julia Jones. They must be coolest people in the planet to them 🙂

What do you think of Kristen’s new project? Are you looking forward on getting the twilight saga guide? I am if we’ll get more background on the characters 🙂 What did you think of Tinsel Korey’s interview? Will you be seeing the Last Airbender? I can’t wait to see it!
