Clara Rider has been busting her butt to try to make the dating app she created, Slay, a success.  Her mother has made it clear she thinks it’s a waste of time and effort.  So, she made a bet with her mom that she could find her own perfect match through her app!  Unfortunately, Clara doesn’t have time to date so she made up a boyfriend, Blake the doctor.  It becomes time to put up or shut up when her mom returns from her trip to Asia unexpectedly and demands to meet Blake!  So, she does the only thing she can think of.   She offers to pay a random guy a thousand dollars to have lunch with her mom and her, and pretend to be Blake!  However, she never expected the man that she solicited to be a successful restaurateur with a reality TV show and book in the works!

During the lunch “Blake” aka Adrian commits he and Clara to a charity event that her mother is attending.  The two make a date of it and have a wonderful time and by the end of the night, they both long for more.  And, when things start heating up, Clara bails, leaving them both broken hearted.

I wasn’t expecting much going into this book, but I did end up enjoying it.

I really liked Adrian.  I thought he was a lot of fun and would be a great guy to be friends with in real life!

I thought Clara’s self-sacrifice was stupid though!  He deserves better so I’m going to break it off even though I really love him and he loves me.  Dumb.  At that point she really didn’t deserve him and I’d be happy to take him off her hands for her!

This is the first story I’ve read from this author and I did enjoy her writing style and humor.
