Marisa has been best friends with L.J. since she was eight-years-old.  He came into her life when she needed him the most.  Her father walked out on her at about the same time, leaving her with her alcoholic mother that couldn’t take care of herself, let alone a child.  Marisa was embarrassed and would lie for her mother to L.J. and his family making up stories for her mom’s frequent disappearances.  And, when L.J.’s dad got sick, it was Marisa’s bone marrow that saved his life.

The two friends share everything…. Including huge crushes on each other!  And, when Marisa’s apartment catches on fire, L.J. is the first person she calls.  He swoops in and saves the day and takes her back to the house he shares with some of his football buddies.  But with the two living so close to each other, will they finally give in to their secret desires?

Oh and there is one catch to complicate things … L.J.’s football coach is none other than the dad that left Marisa when she was eight!  If Coach Saunders finds out how deep their feelings go, he could make sure that L.J’s dream of being drafted is snuffed out in an instant.

This is the first book that I’ve read from this series or even this author!  And, I must say that I thoroughly enjoyed it!  I found this couple to be pretty sweet.  I adored L.J. and his constant need to take care of everyone.  I must say it bothered me to never learn what L.J. actually stood for though!  His family and friends were pretty great too and I can’t wait to read Keyton’s story.  It sounds like his parents may be even worse than Marisa’s!  It could be a total heartbreaker …

Marisa had been hurt repeatedly by the parents that were supposed to protect her.  And, if even her own dad can leave her, she doesn’t expect anybody to stick around … not even L.J.!  So she’ll just have to leave him before he can do the same to her!  Unless he can prove that he’s the staying kind before it’s too late!

I liked Marisa, but she was awfully hardheaded at times.  Not wanting to let anybody get too close.

Overall, it was an enjoyable read and I look forward to more books from this author and hopefully from this series as well!
