the-darkest-fire-gena-showalterGeryon sold his soul to Lucifer for his wife, and she didn’t even appreciate the sacrifice, disgusted by his new monstrous form, she eventually left him for another man.  Now he is the guardian of the gates of hell, preventing demons from escaping.

Geryon sees the beautiful Goddess of Oppression every day and can’t help, but be enamored by her.  One day she notices a crack in the wall and asks him to help, but he was unable to leave his post.  So, she barters with Lucifer and buys Geryon’s soul so he can help her.

Now they’re on a mission to fix the wall and eliminate the demons that are causing the damage.

This is the first story I’ve read from Gena Showalter and I’m sad to say that I wasn’t impressed.  Granted, it’s a novella and I’m never a big fan of those, but this book just didn’t grip me in the least.

I had a hard time imagining Geryon as a sexy male lead with his beastly form, horns and hoofed feet and all.  I also had trouble seeing how Kadence (the Goddess) found him attractive.

And, also it bugged me that they never revealed what price Kadence paid for Geryon’s soul.

To say nothing of Geryon not learning his lesson with his wife, we find him sacrificing himself for a woman once again just so he can stay with her and touch her. Barf.

The only positive thing I can really say about this story is that it’s short.
