Summary:

It’s love at first flight…

I’m terrified of flying, but that’s exactly what I plan on doing. This year, I will fly in more ways than one.

It all started with a text that pushed me out of my comfort zone and gave me the push I needed to quit my job and book a flight to Greece.

On the plane, I meet Carter Starr, a sexy stranger who makes me soar to heights I never expected to reach.

One look at him and my heart turns over. One touch, and my fears of flying melt away. We’ve never met before, but I recognize his kiss, his touch, and the taste of his name on my tongue.

Now I’m terrified of my own feelings, feelings for a man I barely know, a man who sweeps me off my feet and whisks me away, a man who makes me forget who I am.

Carter Starr is my one-way ticket to a fresh new start. But what if it’s all too good to be true? (Goodreads)

Review:

While not a huge fan of short stories or novellas, I must say that Resolution: Take Off is an engaging story with all the requisite components.  Interesting characters along with a believable story that has a beginning, a middle, and an end. And at no time did the story feel rushed or missing anything due to its short length. Dori Lavelle has done it again – created a story which I have totally immersed myself for the duration of the read. In fact, so much so that I wanted the epilogue to be longer – to know more of the continuing story of Ava Raine and Carter Starr.

Ava Raine is pushed to the brink by her uncaring, workaholic boss Donny. With a 6 am January 1st  deadline (given to Ava on New Year’s Eve no less), Ava pulls out a bottle of champagne, proceeds to drink a glass… then another. Next thing Ava knows, she is woken up by a phone call at 8 a.m. on New Years Day by non other than Donny inquiring as to where her report was? Harsh words were spoken and when push comes to shove, Ava quits.

Now begins her journey of discovery. Quickly planning a trip to Greece, which requires not one but two plane trips each way. This is certainly a stretch since she is afraid of flying. What happens on the first leg of the trip sets the stage. She meets Carter, this mysterious stranger who is being very kind and generous to her. As you would expect… Carter is a hunk of a guy and this does not go unnoticed by Ava. Sparks fly and let’s say…the rest is history.

The journey for their love story has depth, heat, some “running scared” moments and of course the “awe” moments.  All in all, a wonderful short story that tugs at one’s heartstrings. Well done Dori Lavelle. I am never disappointed by your storytelling, whether it be a sweet (and somewhat hot) love story or a psychological thriller.
