OBS SPEAKS OUT: A NEW MOON DVD EXTRAS WISH LIST

New Moon has been in the theaters for just over two weeks and the talk about the DVD release is already underway with speculation and hopes for the deleted and extended scenes and other special features. In interviews before the release of New Moon, director Chris Weitz stated that he actually had about four hours of footage to work with for the final cut of the film. With that said, that could make for some very interesting extended and deleted scenes.

MTV.com recently reported that Chris, Taylor, Robert, and Kristen will soon be in a recording studio to record the audio commentary, so we know that we will be graced with that feature on the DVD. That’s one of the things that I love about the Twilight DVD. The way that Robert keeps cracking jokes (especially his obsession about his eyebrows) makes Catherine Hardwicke’s chatter worth watching it. I think that it will be interesting to hear what he says in this one, especially since he’s in only about 10% of it.

They also reported that the DVD will include of “Twilight in Forks”, the independent documentary that Summit bought the rights to earlier this year. Chris Weitz also stated that there would be about twenty minutes of deleted material for the fans to enjoy. Having already seen the movie, we are well-aware of what isn’t in the final cut of the film. Drawing on some of the comments and wishful thinking shared by fans in our forum, here’s a compilation of some of the scenes that we could hope to see in those twenty minutes.

*Perhaps one of the most loved and endearing quotes of the entire Twilight Saga was not in the movie and I know that many fans hope that it was, at least, filmed and not cut out of the movie completely…“Before you, Bella, my life was like a moonless night. Very dark, but there were stars – points of light and reason. …And then you shot across my sky like a meteor. Suddenly everything was on fire; there was brilliancy, there was beauty. When you were gone, when the meteor had fallen over the horizon, everything went black. Nothing had changed, but my eyes were blinded by the light. I couldn’t see the stars anymore. And there was no more reason for anything.”

*The conversation that Charlie and Alice have while Bella’s sleeping on the couch and he pours his heart out to her and Bella learns that she hasn’t been fooling anyone.

*Sam asking Bella if she’d been hurt with the follow-up from Dr. Gerandy. They worked around it with the meaningful looks between Sam and Harry, but the tweaking of the question in the books was so significant.

*Jacob learning how Bella got the scar on her arm and the fact that Edward saved her from becoming a vampire.

*The Cullens meeting Alice, Bella, and Edward at the airport – especially when Alice and Jasper are reunited. Rosalie’s apology wouldn’t have really fit here since they worked it into “the vote”, but the way that the Cullens reacted as a real family and the intense love that goes beyond words between Alice and Jasper would be amazing to see on the screen.

*Charlie going ballistic on Edward when they return from Italy and they bring Bella home.

*Edward giving Bella the CD with her lullaby on it for her birthday.

*Bella looking for the CD and pictures after Edward leaves.

*Bella’s epiphany about why she had the hallucinations before the vote.

*Edward, Bella and Esme before they go in the house to vote. Esme has so few moments in the books and it seems like she keeps getting the short end of the stick when it comes to getting her moment to sparkle.

*Edward storming out and breaking the plasma screen TV during the vote scene.

*Alice and Bella’s conversation in the airplane and Bella telling her, “Bite me, Alice!”

*Bella, Alice, and Edward having to wait in the lobby in Volterra and Alice saying, “I think she is having hysterics, maybe you should slap her.”

*Bella going to the Cullens house trying to find some evidence of Edward and seeing the house empty.

*Bella ripping out the radio in the truck, and then having to explain what happened to Edward when he finds it in the black bag in her closet.

What about you? What deleted or extended scenes are you hoping to see when the DVD comes out in the next few months? Are you glad that they’re doing another audio commentary? Are these special features important to you when you purchase DVDs?
