‘ALICE IN WONDERLAND’: GO DOWN THE RABBIT HOLE WITH VARIOUS ADAPTATIONS

You’d think “Alice in Wonderland” would be a natural for the movies. But so much of its sprightliness derives from Lewis Carroll’s verbal rough-and-tumble and the elusive plucky charm of Alice herself that film and TV directors who focus more on whimsy than on wit and character invariably come a cropper. For my money, the best “Alice”-derived movie is a British film only partly about Carroll’s wonderland. The best direct Alice adaptation is a Czech mixture of live action and puppet animation. Here’s a look at both of them and at the two biggest Hollywood versions of the story: The ebullient Disney cartoon and Paramount‘s leaden live-action version (just out on DVD).

FIRST LOOK: THE OFFICIAL STORY OF THE CAPTAIN AMERICAFILM!

We may have our first look at the story for The First Avenger: Captain America, the movie adaptation of the iconic Marvel Comics hero, and it’s encouraging to fans of the franchise.

A casting notice posted on Feature Film Casting reveals that the movie is in preproduction for a June 28 start, with a release date of July 22, 2011. Here’s the story summary (spoilers!)

THE FIRST PREDATORS FOOTAGE INVADES SXSW

Get ready to see the ultimate space warriors head into a brand new battle. Robert Rodriguez’s Predators is debuting its first look at the Austin, TX South By Southwest film festival.

Producer Robert Rodriguez and director Nimród Antal are holding a short screening of some their new Predators in action. Plus, both of them will be around for a Q&A following the debut.

TRON LEGACY COULD LAUNCH A NEW TRILOGY, TV SHOW AND A BRAND NEW TOMORROW LAND

If the Tron sequel fills Disney’s digital pockets with cash, we may see plenty more lightcycle races and disk fights, on our TVs and in the Disney theme parks. Along with two more Tron flicks, making it a Tron Trilogy.

According to Blue Sky Disney, if Tron Legacy does well in the box office, we should be seeing at least two more films [beginning a whole new trilogy of Tron BLANK films Tron Legacy being the first] and the Mouse House’s Tomorrowland might be getting a light suit face lift.
