The first two seasons of Drop Dead Diva proved this show was like nothing else on TV. Completely ludicrous and off the walls outlandish but that’s what makes the show so dang wonderful! Underneath all the crazy antics, is a heartfelt story both through Jane and her clients.

Season three is proving to be just as incredibly outlandish as the first two seasons. Episode one, starts off with Jane reviewing the most important highlights of what happened in the first two seasons:

–Deb was an aspiring model until she died. She had assumed she would go straight to Heaven. That is until she pressed the return button on the keyboard in Heaven and returned back to Earth in someone else’s body.

–Now Deb is in Jane’s body. A super smart lawyer who cares more about her clients than her wardrobe (much to Deb’s horror) and has an awesome assistant.

–The only people who know Jane is really Deb is her best fried Stacy and her guardian angel Fred who was sent to Earth to watch over her.

The episode then moves to Jane (Deb) running into the hospital asking for Grayson, who at the end of the second season, had been hit by a car. The nurse helping her checks on the name and informs Jane (Deb) that Grayson died. But a man calls out Jane’s name from behind her. Jane turns around and lord and behold, it’s Grayson in another man’s body! He claims he pressed the same return key Deb had and returned to Earth too. Just as Deb giggles with joy and unbelief, another man approaches and says he’s the real Grayson. Before Jane can process that, a boy far too young to date anyone, tells Jane he’s the real Grayson. All three start trying to convince her that each one is the real Grayson until Jane (Deb) wakes up and realizes it was all a dream.

We are then treated to a hilarious and equally fabulous musical skit by Jane singing Don‘t Leave Me This Way by Thelma Houston. Terri (Jane’s assistant), Kim (one of the lawyer’s at the same company Jane works for), Stacy, Fred, and a bunch of different workers from the hospital participate in the musical number as well. The disco balls were priceless! My most favorite part was the nun and the priest dancing on top of the roof of the hospital–too funny!!

I don’t know who is funnier on this show, Fred, Stacy, or Terri. Stacy with her random thoughts, Fred with his need to impress Stacy thus making a fool of himself, and Terri with her colorful sarcasm. The three of them are ridiculous (in a good way)!

Jane, reluctant to leave Grayson’s bedside, has no choice since Parker assigns her a new case. She will be representing a big shot movie star who is charged with a hit and run of a twelve year old girl. Jane hires Stacy to help her (as an intern) since Stacy, displaying her stalker-like qualities, knows more about celebrities than Jane does. Tim Klien is Jane’s new client and he’s a (hot) egotistical jerk face. The case turns from a hit and run to second degree murder after the twelve year old girl dies.

Kim has moved out of Parker’s law firm and has set up her own due to the fact that Kim and Parker had been dating each other in season two but Parker screwed it by kissing his ex-girlfriend who owned a part of the company. Big oops!

Kim’s new client is a friend of hers. Turns out said friend’s husband professed being a changed man after their divorce and wanted to get back together with Kim’s friend. Kim’s friend and her husband, had dinner, talked, and ended up sleeping together. The husband never called Kim’s friend again so now Kim’s friend wants to know if she can sue for a booty call. Parker takes on defending the husband because they are old friends and it’s his only way to see Kim. Parker’s client loses and is ordered by the judge to post on a billboard how crappy of a man he really is.

Jane stops by the hospital to see Grayson who is still in a coma. She pours her heart out to him, how she wishes things could go back to being the same, how much she wishes they could be together, how much it’s been killing her to see him with Vanessa when she’s really his soul mate. Suddenly, Grayson moves his hand against Jane’s then opens his eyes but he doesn’t recognize who Jane is. The doctor explains to both Jane and Vanessa that his amnesia is most likely temporary since most patients who return from a comma experience some amnesia in the beginning.

Jane wins her case proving that Tim Klien’s soon to be ex-wife is the one who had been driving his car when the hit and run on the twelve year old girl was committed. After the case is over, Stacy informs Jane that Grayson has asked to see her. Jane heads to the hospital, Fred reminding her she needs to go in there as Jane not as Deb, and is surprised to find Vanessa is also there. Grayson tells Jane given everything that’s happened recently, he and Vanessa have decided to speed up their wedding plans. Now the wedding will take place in a month and Grayson wants Jane to be his best man. Jane agrees because she sees no way out. She walks out of the hospital, tears in her eyes, and onto the elevator.

I just wanted to give Deb (Jane) a big hug at the end of the episode! She looked so heart broken and beat up after Grayson’s confession. How blind can a guy be not to notice how much a girl is really in love with him?! I’m glad Kim is making Parker work hard to get back into her good graces. He was a dirt bag and he needs to be in the dog house for a while. Kim’s booty call case was so insane but very funny concept. It was kind of predictable to guess who really killed the girl and LeAnn Rhimes didn’t do too bad of a job portraying the ex-wife. I wish there had been more of Terri. She is one of my favorite characters. She is always sarcastic, even with her facial expressions!

I CANNOT wait to find out what happens! Will Grayson really go through marrying Vanessa? Will Deb finally confess who she really is?

Fun Facts:

Paula Abdul returns as Jane’s fake mentor (she only appears in Jane’s dreams). Mario Lopez makes a cameo as a reporter. Wendy Williams also makes a guest starring appearance, as the judge Kim and Parker have to go up against in their case.
