Synopsis:

In a thrilling Carpathian novel from #1 New York Times bestselling author Christine Feehan, a woman fights to free herself from the grip of the vampire trying to possess her… In a beautiful compound hidden away from the world, Emeline Sanchez tries to blunt the pain that has wracked her body ever since her terrifying ordeal in the labyrinth beneath the city–when she was forced to exchange blood with an evil master vampire. Now, it’s his voice that haunts her…that calls to her in the dark…that never lets her rest. And while the children that she helped to free from his clutches struggle to heal, watched over by their Carpathian protectors, Emeline knows one thing: She must sacrifice herself to keep them all from harm… For her beauty is irresistible to the vampires, her psychic ability like a drug. Whipped into a frenzy, they’ll never stop coming for her. And only the taste of one Carpathian warrior–the rush of his blood–can save her… (Goodreads)

Review:

I was waiting for this book! After the events of Dark Crime, I was left on a cliffhanger waiting to see who the healer sent from the Carpathian mountains was, what was going to happen to the children, what was going to happen to Emeline, if my suspicions about her were true or was I jumping into conclusions too fast. So many unanswered questions. But now, Dark Legacy is finally here and hopefully we’ll have answers.

There were several things revealed in this book that only add more to the anticipation for the next book. First, we have Emeline feeling worse and worse everyday by the constant threat that she thinks she is to her friends and the Carpathians. She isolates herself more and more from those living in the compound, with her health deteriorating. Everything changes when she finally lets herself be seen by the Carpathian Dragomir, her true lifemate and not the Master Vampire as she had been made to think. Dragomir struggles as he tries to make Emeline believe and trust him. Eventually, the couple comes to terms accepting each other and their differences, the new challenges they’ll have to face, and being able to trust those around them.

Second, we have the healer sent from the mountains that is no other than… Gary! I did not expect that. I thought that maybe it would be another Daratrazanoff, Skyler, or an unknown healer that the readers hadn’t seen. But sending Gary changes everything. In Dark Promises, it is mentioned that Gary’s lifemate is in Paris, my assumption was that he would go there and we would finally have his book, but no, no Gary story, yet. So now Feehan has sent Gary back to America as THE HEALER, just like what Gregory is to Mikhail, Gary will become to Tariq. This is quite a character development and evolution. Gary started out in book four as a character that helped the Carpathians with the human scientific point of view to their quest to solve the birth problem among their species, he became really close to Gregory and Savannah, helped take care of the human and Carpathian children, and then fought for his life after a critical attack, which lead to his conversion to a Carpathian. Now, he is a second in command. I just love where Feehan is going with his story. I can’t wait to see who his lifemate turns out to be and how she will compliment him.

“I am here to protect you. Mikhail sent to a Daratrazanoff to keep you alive. I will do so whether you wish it or not.”

And finally, something that also took me by surprise, yet it should have not because Feehan has a whole universe of characters waiting to make an appearance, within the tunnels in which the children and Emeline were taken, there was a long lost female Carpathian waiting to be found. The female Carpathian goes by the name of Elisabeta and is found along with a female mage by the name of Julija, who is also a very interesting character and who I hope we see more in future books. The introduction of Elisabeta is quite a surprise because her relatives are ones that we hadn’t heard of in a while, and I just feel that with this new introduction we, as readers, need a Dark Celebration 2 so all the long lost family members and new ones gather and meet. Pretty please?

If my memory serves me well, we are still waiting for some characters to come to America and help with the current situation, which I can’t wait to see, but with Dark Carousel, Crime, and Legacy coming to a sort of trilogy conclusion, we still have to wait and see in what direction Feehan intends to take the story from this point on. There is still a master vampire on the run, and he could go anywhere. But for now, i recommend you read Dark Legacy and catch up on any other Dark series books because it just keeps getting intense.
