Review:

Cliff’s Edge is the second book in the Solace Island series by Meg Tilly. I love that the series continues on with a story about Eve Harris (sister of Maggie from book 1) in the now “familiar to me” Solace Island in the Pacific Northwest. Cliff’s Edge is a romantic suspense novel with lots of chills in addition to lots of steam!

Maggie has married the love of her life, Luke, and they are now going on their honeymoon. With Maggie and Eve in business together running the Intrepid Café in town, Eve takes on all the responsibility of the business while Maggie is on her honeymoon. Now I must say – Eve is NO baker nor cook. Eve is an artist who is running the business end of the bakery/café and occasionally garners time to paint. In fact, her paintings are in the bakery and available for sale.

While Maggie and Luke are on their honeymoon, Eve moves into their state-of-the-art home in the hopes of getting more time to paint (along with running the business). Unbeknownst to Eve (and Maggie), Luke has offered up his home as a safe haven for film star Rhys Thomas to relax following the wrap of his latest film.

The reader will quickly surmise that Eve and Rhys living in the same home (without prior warning) will certainly raise the ire of both of these strong characters. Given that this is a romance, there will be head butting, disagreements and of course – mutual attraction (to the max I might add). There are many surprises throughout the story but I must say the one I liked best was a hidden talent of Rhys’s – and no – I am not referring to any hidden talents in the bedroom but those in the kitchen. There are many subplots going on throughout that I did not become complacent nor bored. Let us not forget there was also laughter as these two characters together sure could get into some unusual situations and discussions.

As this is also a suspense novel – there is that! At times I was on the edge of my seat reading. While I knew in the long run that a happily ever after (HEA) was the end game (or so I hoped), I still had reservations about the suspense part of this novel. It was well written and kept me guessing throughout. At times my “spidey senses” were tingling. As to the details – I leave that for each reader to discover for themselves.

I find Meg Tilly’s writing style a joy to read. I look forward to reading book 3 in this Solace island series –> Hidden Cove 🙂
