Review: First, I must say that I fell head over heels for Born at Midnight! I have literally counted the days to the release of Awake at Dawn. C.C. Hunter has a way of grabbing the reader’s attention and holding it like few authors can. Awake at Dawn is without a doubt the perfect sequel to Born at Midnight!
Awake at Dawn picks up right where Born at Midnight concluded. Kylie is still in the process of trying to figure out WHAT she is and readers will immediately feel a connection to her journey. Throughout Awake at Dawn readers learn more about the people close to Kylie and their relationships. Kylie begins to change drastically throughout the course of the novel. Awake at Dawn shows a stronger more resilient Kylie. She begins to develop skills that suggest she is many different paranormals. Still, the reader is left wondering what exactly Kylie IS?!? She begins to change so drastically it’s hard to know which paranormal she’ll end up being.
I love the relationship between Holiday and Kylie. Holiday, the camp leader, is always there and always willing to do what she can to help Kylie. Not because it’s what she’s supposed to do but because she seems to genuinely care for Kylie’s well being. It’s much like the friendship between Kylie, Miranda, and Della. The friends are an unlikely team. While they have their moments, there hasn’t been a truer bond. All three seem willing to go to great lengths to protect each other. It’s so refreshing to see such a bond in Awake at Dawn. I’m thrilled with C.C. Hunter’s portrayal of such a great friendship!
C.C. Hunter put the perfect amount on romance in Awake at Dawn. The relationship Kylie has with both Lucas and Derek is addicting! I found myself falling for both characters. How could anyone choose between the two? Derek is the kind, sweet, and handsome half-fairy while Lucas is the mysterious, sexy, and all consuming werewolf. I find myself drawn to Lucas because he and Kylie share a part of their childhood but it’s an impossible triangle, nonetheless.
Awake at Dawn follows Kylie’s journey to self discovery. It’s full of the perfect balance of both friendships and romance and will leave readers needing more! It’s not often that I love a series as much as I have with the Shadow Falls Series. I find myself thinking of nothing but both Born at Midnight and Awake at Dawn! This has been one of my favorite series of all time! If I could, I would fast forward to April 2012 for the sole purpose of getting my hands on Taken at Dusk. Seriously, is it April 2012 yet?!?!
