Even though the market has been crowded with vampire stories trying to ride the coattails of The Twilight Saga all the way to the bank, there’s a new vampire project moving forward that I can actually get behind as Heat Vision reports producer Lucas Foster (Jumper, Mr. & Mrs. Smith) and his Warp Films production banner have picked up the rights to Christopher Farnsworth’s novel Blood Oath which hits shelves today. The story follows a vampire captured by the U.S. Army after the Civil War who is forced to swear an oath to President Andrew Johnson and has since protected the presidency in the Secret Service for over 150 years.

WILL DREW BARRYMORE DIRECT A NEW OZ SEQUEL?

More than 70 years after the original Wizard of Oz dazzled audiences, Oz is hot again: First came reports that Iron Man’s Robert Downey Jr. was up for the title role in the prequel Oz the Great and Powerful. Now comes news that Drew Barrymore will direct a different sequel, Surrender Dorothy, resurrecting that project from development hell.

And that’s not even counting a couple of other simmering Oz-themed movies.

The project was first announced in 2002. It was based on a Zach Helm script (Stranger Than Fiction) and had Drew Barrymore attached to star. She is now attached to direct, as a follow-up to her directorial debut, Whip It.
