Aspiring actress, Chanel Rylan, never knew that her love for the classic movies would cost her her own life. She and her roommate had regular girls’ nights to watch classic movies. This time they went to see Hitchcock’s Psycho. Her friend got an emergency call from work that got her to step out of the theater. And when the iconic shower scene was playing out, Chanel was being brutally murdered.
Eve Dallas is on the case. However, they quickly discover that Chanel’s murder wasn’t as random as it appeared. A local author has a disgruntled fan who has taken it upon herself to re-write her novels in the flesh. She is murdering women in the same way they were murdered in the books. Now it’s up to Eve to find the killer before she can re-write all eight novels and start making stories all her own.
I thought this was an improvement over the previous installment, Secrets in Death. I found this storyline more entertaining and it kept me engaged. It’s a little interesting to read a murder book about a murderer acting out murder books.
It was also sweet seeing Eve and Roarke curled up reading books together to try and figure out clues on the latest serial killer.
I did find the last chapter a bit dull though. The interview in the box just didn’t have the same ompf they usually have.
Overall, this was a decent read. It had an interesting premise with some wild characters. Dealing with the ‘skanks’ and trying to keep them alive was like trying to herd puppies. Glaze was fun though, and I didn’t dislike him. I’m also loving Nadine’s latest love interest, Jake Kincade, and I hope to see more of him … but I don’t want to see him murdered, of course. I’ve always been rather neutral on Nadine, but I’m sure she deserves some happiness. And, if we see more Jake, maybe we can see Glaze again too. Just a thought.
