Review brought to you by OBS staff member Deanne

Summary:

Butch O’Neal is a fighter by nature. A hard living, ex-homicide cop, he’s the only human ever to be allowed in the inner circle of the Black Dagger Brotherhood. And he wants to go even deeper into the vampire world- to engage in the turf war with the lessers. He’s got nothing to lose. His heart belongs to a female vampire, an aristocratic beauty who’s way out of his league. If he can’t have her, then at least he can fight side by side with the Brothers…

Fate curses him with the very thing he wants. When Butch sacrifices himself to save a civilian vampire from the slayers, he falls prey to the darkest force in the war. Left for dead, found by a miracle, the Brotherhood calls on Marissa to bring him back, though even her love may not be enough to save him…

Review:

What to say about book number 4? It’s about Butch who has been a character since book one, Dark Lover.  He is the only Human (ever) to be let into their world. I do like Butch and his story with the love of his Life Marissa (who is a vampire) He (Butch) is a human, so there are some issues involved in that union.

This was not my favorite book so far, it took a different path than the rest. It also, to me, did not have the character development as with the past books, which I thought was odd considering Butch has always been there.

Please don’t  get me wrong, it was still a good book with some very steamy moments, and you are still very much apart of their word. I guess with Butch being human, it will obviously be different.

As for Marissa, I  found she was a little too generic for my taste. All of the other women seemed had their own personalty, their own passion and they all seem to know who they were and what they were about. I found Marissa was still trying to figure all those things out, while trying to keep her innocence.

I will have to wait and see if J.R Ward brings it back in the next book, Lover Unbound.
