a-month-of-bedtime-storiesSynopsis:

A cow that eats bananas and lives in the trees!

Bees that pilot submarines through uncharted puddles!

An elevator that descends to the centre of the Earth!

Cowardly dinosaurs! Cockney pirates! Alien Dogs! Vertiginous squirrels! Time-traveling slugs! Fish in spacesuits!

Hedgehogs disguised as fish! Cows disguised as ants!

They’re all here in this collection of weird and wonderful bedtime stories, a month’s worth of fantastic tales to guarantee your child thirty-one dream-filled nights.

Review:

Children of all ages will love the whimsical and delightful characters that the author has brought to these stories. The stories engage the child immediately as they are reminded first why they have forgotten the adventure to be told. The characters are easy to visualize and I can see many children drawing them for days after hearing about them. After all who couldn’t imagine a fish in a spacesuit or a bee in a submarine navigating to new depths in a puddle looking for new alien species?

The stories are filled with just the right amount of humor for adults and the children will enjoy the absurdity of the characters and adventures. Giggles and laughter by both adults and children will abound as they get into each zany adventure. I personally loved the story when they went to get milk from the milk mine because the cow said he didn’t give milk.

About 15-20 minutes in length the stories are a perfect length for bedtime reading (if you could ever get away with reading just one) and I could definitely see that they might be demanded over and over. I look forward to getting more books from Neil McFarlane and I am sure my grandchildren will love them as much as I did.
