16 SCI-FI SOLDIERS WE SHOULD ALL SALUTE ON MEMORIAL DAY

from Evan Hoovler at Sci Fi Wire

With Memorial Day bearing down on us, we thought it the right time to salute those brave sci-fi soldiers who’ve fought so hard for the betterment of the sci-fi universe.

And please note—we’re specifically honoring those who served in an organized military, rather than mercenaries, a ragtag group of rebels or a mom/robot from the future.

Colonel Jack O’Neill (Stargate SG-1)

On the subject of incredible actors who have played sci-fi military heroes, Jack O’Neill was played by both Kurt Russell and Richard Dean Anderson. As an Air Force colonel, Jack O’Neill was never trained in leaping across galaxies using the Stargate. But when it came time to stop the aliens, mentally absorb a bunch of ancient knowledge or get frozen, Jack O’Neill was never shy. Plus, he never tried to pull pranks by sticking stuff halfway into the Stargate, which must have taken incredible willpower.

This is a great list (I picked O’Neill because he’s my favorite). Military Sci Fi is a genre I love, so I’m thrilled about this. And Happy (early) Memorial Day!
