How vampires, werewolves and other fantastic creatures are represented in literature is the topic of a special seminar taught by a Georgetown Slavic languages professor.

Marcia Morris’ class, Shifting Selves: Changelings and Doubles, is part of Georgetown College’s Ignatius Seminars, which give faculty members the chance to focus on subjects that are close to but not directly related to their professional research interests.

In light of the movie Twilight and HBO’s True Blood being two of today’s most popular films and TV shows, the seminar is a favorite among students.

Passionate Intellectuals
The idea behind the seminars, named for the founder of the Society of Jesus, is to have professors talk about academic interests they find most intriguing, encouraging students to make their own intellectual paths.

“A rich and varied academic program such as the one we offer at Georgetown College provides students with multiple lenses through which to focus their reflection and, as a result, encourages them to become well-informed and active citizens,” Morris notes.
