VAMPIRE DIARIES NEWS KLAUS & JULIE PLEC INTERVIEWS LOTS OF FINALE SPOILERS

Joseph Morgan “The Worst is Yet to Come”

About How He Sees Klaus:

“If you’re the most powerful person in the world, then nothing is a threat to you and therefore you can find humor in everything and you can be playful with everything. In episode 19 when I pin Elijah against the wall and I say “Do not lie to me!” and I shout it in his face, I think that’s one of the only times I shouted in the show. I shout maybe one other time, but it’s all very light and playful because I feel like Klaus is just on that level where he knows everyone’s gonna do what he tells them. He just kind of holds some degree of intimidation.”

About the History of the Petrova Doppelganger:

“And you know, Katherine was a doppelganger as well. The original Petrova. I would love to see how that came about and why she was bound up in that curse and therefore her doppelgangers have to be sacrificed 500 years later and a thousand years later. Because that’s very interesting to me in terms of how they all kind of came about.”

More from Joseph Morgan

Does Klaus have any redeeming qualities other than just being really hot?
Well, I think he has an appreciation of culture. [Laughs.] I think he’s been around long enough, he has an appreciation for the finer things in life. I like to think he can be charming when he wants to be, although he probably has ulterior motives most of the time. We’ll see—like I did, you guys will discover along the way, as the episodes come out the end of this season, you learn a little more. Each character becomes more three-dimensional the more we watch them, the more things we learn about them. So yeah, I hope so, maybe there’s something we haven’t seen.

I love him as Klaus, they could not have made a better casting choice. He is a perfect addition to the cast. I’m with him on delving into the doppleganger. I’d like to see them give a more expanded explanation. But I also want to see more about “the originals.” Too bad he killed Elijah and put him with the rest of their family. Hopefully Elena’s posse will find and help Elijah. Any thoughts on what Joseph Morgan had to say?

Julie Plec talks….

When do you decide you were going to kill off Jenna (Sara Canning)?
Julie Plec: Those decisions are never made lightly. We talked quite a lot about it together in a span of a day when we were writing the story for episode 20. It was not something we set out to do in the beginning of the season — it was a late in the day decision — and once we made the decision about Jenna’s demise that’s the point when we orchestrated the vampire sacrifice of it all.

Now that Matt freaked out and broke up with Caroline, does that leave room for her and Tyler to get together?
Plec: Matt and Tyler aren’t in the last episode so their Season 2 journey has come to a close, but the fun of where I think we’ll be able to go with it is that we’ve got a mayor and a sheriff who are each mothers of supernatural beings and who are not necessarily compatible with each other. Where are those mothers going to stand in all this and as mayor and the sheriff of the town, what conflict is going to arise as they jockey for position to protect their children and also maybe try to keep their children away from each other?

I’m curious about how Caroline and Tyler’s mothers will respond. I hope they develop it especially with the sheriff. She killed Jeremy and she needs to know that her daughter is not all bad. What do you think?

You recently said that Season 3 would be about the originals. Was that always the plan?
Julie Plec: We always knew in a perfect world our Klaus casting [Joseph Morgan] would be successful. He’s a very small villain in the book series, but his actions have huge, huge repercussions on the community. We knew there was a lot of territory to mine there, so we built him in and introduced him at the end of this season in hopes that the audience would connect to the character as a villain and we could then explore a lot more down the road about who he is and where he came from. The addition of Elijah [Daniel Gillies] in our world midseason just changed everything. You have Joseph Morgan and Daniel Gillies, two extraordinary actors having these amazing scenes with each other and you just want more of them. We haven’t started plotting Season 3 yet — that happens soon — but certainly it’s in our intention to dig deeply into the backstory of the original family.

I have been blown away by each new episode. The writing is off the charts, the deaths have been unexpected and at this point I’m addicted. I couldn’t say that after the first season. I enjoyed S1 but S2 has been a whole different level. Do you like the direction of the series?
