Off the Cuff With Peter Travers: Ashley Greene

Rolling Stone: In this episode of Off the Cuff, Rolling Stone’s Peter Travers sits down with Twilight Saga: Eclipse star Ashley Greene, who opens up about auditioning for Bella, her party girl vampire character Alice and why Eclipse is the most “guy-friendly and action-packed” film in the series. Greene also teaches Travers how to perfect the “Alice stare” and even sings a few bars of Jason Mraz’ “I’m Yours” in this exclusive video interview.

David Slade Talks Eclipse James Kleinmann recently interviewed director David Slade on the film “The Twilight Saga: Eclipse” aka Eclipse stars Robert Pattinson (The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn), Kristen Stewart (Adventureland, The Runaways), Taylor Lautner, (My Own Worst Enemy) and Xavier Samuel (Road Train, The Loved Ones).

‘Twilight’ weaves Mormon ideas into supernatural love saga

With the latest Twilight movie packing theaters, a raft of experts are busy spotting religious threads in the girl-vampire-werewolf love triangle tales. While groups root for Team Edward or Team Jacob, rivals for Bella’s love, experts are saying the spiritual winner is Team Mormon.

Joel Campbell at the Mormon Times, sees Mormon themes influenced the “Twilight” series of books and the subsequent movies although the author, Stephenie Meyer, is a member the Latter Day Saints (LDS and Mormons prefer to be called) says she “hasn’t consciously inserted her faith’s themes into her books.”

Jana Reiss, blogging at Beliefnet, sees a critical concept in the Book of Mormon, Meyer’s favorite book, underlying the whole Twilight structure:

That issue is overcoming the “natural man.” Edward Cullen (the vampire)is literally carnal. He has to make the decision every day to overcome his nature and be selfless and good–what the Book of Mormon argues is the challenge of every person. The natural “man” (or woman, or hottie vampire) is an enemy to God and has to be put off in favor of struggling for holiness.

‘Twilight’ Star Charlie Bewley Preparing for 100-Mile Marathon

“Twilight” actor Charlie Bewley is training in preparation for a grueling 100-mile (160.9 kilometer) race in October.

The sporty star has previously competed in three 13-mile (20.9 kilometer) half-marathons, but he’s eying victory in an extra-tough endurance race and believes he’ll be ready to tackle the big challenge later this year.

Nikki Reed Reacts to Box Office Numbers ‘The Twilight Saga: Eclipse’ had a huge opening weekend haul of $82.5 million over July 4th weekend, bringing its total to $175 million-plus since opening last week, and one of the film’s stars reacted to the enormous earnings.

‘Eclipse’ Star Kellan Lutz Thanks Fans For Their ‘Unique Merchandise’ One of the best parts of interviewing the stars of “The Twilight Saga” at press junkets is that now there are so many of them that we get to interview them in batches. This leads to some really fun and funny interchanges, such as the one below on “Twilight” merchandise.

‘Eclipse’ spawns a new star in Xavier Samuel

When Australian actor Xavier Samuel shipped off an audition tape to Twilight producers, insta-fame seemed oceans away.

“It’s kind of strange because you send them off into oblivion and you don’t know if anyone watches them,” says Samuel, 26.

That was last year.

Fast-forward to the Eclipse premiere, where thousands of fans are not only screaming but are screaming for him. “It’s kind of 360 degrees of hysteria,” Samuel says just hours before the Los Angeles premiere of the third film installment of Stephenie Meyer’s blockbuster series. “The sound (of Twilight‘s fans) does really knock you off your feet.”

Samuel steals not only the first five minutes of one of most anticipated movies of the summer, but much of its finale. He plays newborn vampire Riley Biers, who, alongside vengeful vamp Victoria, leads a bloodthirsty army of young vampires with one goal: killing human Bella Swan (Kristen Stewart) and those who protect her.

If my memory serves me well, that angel thing with the owl wings behind Edward (Robert Pattinson) in the lab scene was Catherine’s idea not Stephenie’s, somewhere in the Twilight DVD extras you can see it. I don’t want to go into all the religious theme without knowing all the specific details, but we do get to see different point of views in the books; Bella mentions different things about Edward, Carlisle, Angela, Charlie and Renée. Although it is interesting to see what people can find in the books. What do you think of this? Did you find anything else while reading the books?

I really like how Ashley portrays Alice, I couldn’t picture her as Bella and even though Alice was already one of my favorite characters she made me like her more. What did you think of Ashley’s interview?
