‘Twilight’ weaves Mormon ideas into supernatural love saga
With the latest Twilight movie packing theaters, a raft of experts are busy spotting religious threads in the girl-vampire-werewolf love triangle tales. While groups root for Team Edward or Team Jacob, rivals for Bella’s love, experts are saying the spiritual winner is Team Mormon.
Joel Campbell at the Mormon Times, sees Mormon themes influenced the “Twilight” series of books and the subsequent movies although the author, Stephenie Meyer, is a member the Latter Day Saints (LDS and Mormons prefer to be called) says she “hasn’t consciously inserted her faith’s themes into her books.”
Jana Reiss, blogging at Beliefnet, sees a critical concept in the Book of Mormon, Meyer’s favorite book, underlying the whole Twilight structure:
That issue is overcoming the “natural man.” Edward Cullen (the vampire)is literally carnal. He has to make the decision every day to overcome his nature and be selfless and good–what the Book of Mormon argues is the challenge of every person. The natural “man” (or woman, or hottie vampire) is an enemy to God and has to be put off in favor of struggling for holiness.

‘Eclipse’ spawns a new star in Xavier Samuel
“It’s kind of strange because you send them off into oblivion and you don’t know if anyone watches them,” says Samuel, 26.
That was last year.
Fast-forward to the Eclipse premiere, where thousands of fans are not only screaming but are screaming for him. “It’s kind of 360 degrees of hysteria,” Samuel says just hours before the Los Angeles premiere of the third film installment of Stephenie Meyer’s blockbuster series. “The sound (of Twilight‘s fans) does really knock you off your feet.”
Samuel steals not only the first five minutes of one of most anticipated movies of the summer, but much of its finale. He plays newborn vampire Riley Biers, who, alongside vengeful vamp Victoria, leads a bloodthirsty army of young vampires with one goal: killing human Bella Swan (Kristen Stewart) and those who protect her.

If my memory serves me well, that angel thing with the owl wings behind Edward (Robert Pattinson) in the lab scene was Catherine’s idea not Stephenie’s, somewhere in the Twilight DVD extras you can see it. I don’t want to go into all the religious theme without knowing all the specific details, but we do get to see different point of views in the books; Bella mentions different things about Edward, Carlisle, Angela, Charlie and Renée. Although it is interesting to see what people can find in the books. What do you think of this? Did you find anything else while reading the books?
I really like how Ashley portrays Alice, I couldn’t picture her as Bella and even though Alice was already one of my favorite characters she made me like her more. What did you think of Ashley’s interview?
