‘Eclipse’ DVD Countdown: 6-Part Making-Of Documentary Is Reason No. 4 We’re Psyched!

hollywoodcrush.mtv.com: OME, only four more days until “The Twilight Saga: Eclipse” hits stores on DVD! Should we dub this auspicious day Sparkly Friday in Edward’s honor? After all, Jacob got his own spending-spree holiday last week. (That is why they call it Black Friday, right?) While the judges reach a verdict, today we’re coming at you with the No. 4 reason we’re pumped for this particular film to hit home video.

Yesterday we talked about the DVD special feature that allows fast-forwarding to all the Edward or Jacob scenes in the film (swoon!), but today we’re all about the special six-part making-of documentary. Mum’s been the word on what the documentary actually entails, so we decided to ask director David Slade if he could give us a little preview of what fans can expect.

“I can’t remember it,” he admitted rather sheepishly. “I do remember having to watch it to approve it and stuff.”

Director David Slade Exclusive Interview for THE TWILIGHT SAGA: ECLIPSE DVD/Blu-ray

www.collider.com: Earlier today, Collider had the opportunity to do an exclusive interview with director David Slade, in which he talked about all of the special features and extras that even the most hardcore fans are sure to enjoy, how every aspect of making the film was daunting, that one of his favorite scenes was the kitchen scene between Bella (Kristen Stewart) and Charlie (Billy Burke), and how he doesn’t judge a film by it’s financial or critical success, but rather how closely it achieves his original vision. He also said that he’s currently narrowing down what he’s going to be working on next, and that all of his choices are very different from his previous work.

Question: What will fans get most excited about, in regard to the special features and extras that you’ve selected for this DVD?

DAVID SLADE: You know, I don’t know. That’s bad. I made the film and haven’t even seen these things, except to approve them. What I will say is that I think it’s a point worth making that, for a film like this, because of the fan base, I liken it to a subculture. It’s not quite punk rock, but it’s a fan culture, like Star Wars fans. It’s a positive thing and I’ve always been very, very supportive of fan cultures. I’m a fan of all kinds of things. With a DVD, you want something you can own, you can watch, you can come to grips with and you can explore. It’s something larger than the film, when it’s going out to a fan base like this. So, I guess that’s my answer. I hope that they like all of it.

David Slade Answers Five Burning Questions

insidemovies.ew.com: The Twilight Saga: Eclipse hits DVD and Blu-ray on Dec. 4. After watching the special features, we had a few burning questions, which director David Slade (pictured, with Kristen Stewart) happily fielded.

1. Why doesn’t he do a commentary track? Slade is obviously well-represented in the feature-length making-of documentary and introduces and provides context for deleted and extended scenes, but he’s not on either of the two commentary tracks over the movie — he leaves those to Stephenie Meyer and producer Wyck Godfrey, and Stewart and Robert Pattinson (she’s in Montreal, jealous that he’s in L.A. eating In-N-Out). “It’s a choice I made after doing my first ever and last ever commentary on my first film Hard Candy,” he says.

‘Eclipse’ director David Slade on fans, Bella and Charlie, and married life

latimesblogs.latimes.com: While we’re busy screaming over feathery Twitpics from “Breaking Dawn,” Summit Entertainment is offering “The Twilight Saga” fans a juicy stocking stuffer to tide them over — an extras-packed, two-disc DVD set for “Eclipse.”

The Ministry caught up with director David Slade, who steered the third installment of the franchise, as he reflected on his whirlwind year in the Twi-universe. After all, a year ago at this time, Slade was only a month into editing the flick.

“Finishing the film is a moment of great weight. It’s not just getting it cut, it’s when the final print is timed and there’s nothing more to do,” he said. “It was the night before we did our press junket we finished it.”

Wow, lots of new interviews with director David Slade! I always like to know what happens behind the scenes it’s fun to see that and how the actors work. I would have liked to see all those scenes that didn’t make into the movie or DVD, I also would have not minded seeing that flashback of Edward and Bella in the 1920s. Well, there’s nothing we can do now.

It’s fun how the cast responds to each others tweets, they’re hilarious! 🙂
