LIONSGATE CLOSES ON  “ABDUCTION” FEATURING TAYLOR LAUTNER

from variety.com:
Lionsgate has cut a deal for “Abduction,” a thriller with Taylor Lautner attached to star, following a week-long bidding war over Shawn Christensen’s spec script.

Lionsgate is paying high six figures against seven for the project with the Gotham Group, Vertigo Entertainment and Lautner’s Tailor Made producing.

Lautner recently inked a deal at Universal to topline “Stretch Armstrong.” He’s also committed to two more pics in the “Twilight” franchise along with Mattel’s adaptation of its “Max Steel” spy franchise, set up at Paramount.

KRISTEN STEWART THANKS FANS FOR SUPPORTING NON-“TWILIGHT” FILMS

from mtv.com:
Under normal circumstances, you would not be able to see “The Yellow Handkerchief” in theaters this weekend. You’d similarly have not been able to see “Little Ashes” or “The Cake Eaters” theatrically, and most likely need some serious hunting skills to track them down on DVD. But in a world where the media is quick to look down on Twilighters, perhaps it’s time to give the fanbase some credit.

Still, it has undeniably helped, and KStew is appreciative of the blockbuster-embracing fanbase also giving love to the stars’ tiny films. “That’s awesome that ‘Twilight’ has given my other little movies a hand,” the 19-year-old actress explained. “Because I am really proud of them.”

BORDERS “NEW MOON” DVD TO HAVE OVER 25 MINUTES OF EXTENDED SCENES

Borders recently tweeted on their official Twitter that their exclusive DVD will have over 25 minutes of extended scenes.  Their product description for the DVD lists the following features:

Exclusive packaging that complements our existing Borders Exclusive Twilight packaging.

Includes exclusive medallion necklace on a silver chain—gold side features wolf-pack tattoo design, silver side shows the Cullen crest.

PLUS, enjoy previously unreleased EXTENDED SCENES; INTERVIEWS with cast members Robert Pattinson, Kristen Stewart, Taylor Lautner, the Cullen Family, the Wolf Pack, the Volturi and Director Chris Weitz; unrivaled RED-CARPET FOOTAGE from the movie premiere; front row seats to The Twilight Saga: New Moon WEBCAST.

However, what isn’t clear about this tweet is whether the extended scenes are exclusive to the Borders DVD.  In looking at product listings for the other DVD offers, it sounds like they are just pumping up their DVD by letting consumers know how much extended footage is on the disc.  Target’s product description states that their disc will contain an exclusive bonus Disc with over 60 minutes of never before seen bonus content.

As far as I can tell at this point, the Borders disc set doesn’t seem to be more exclusive in content.  It looks like the packaging is what is setting their exclusive set apart at the moment.  It looks like fans will need to continue to do their homework and hope that some of these sites put up more detailed product descriptions to help fans make an informed decision before making their purchase(s).

ANOTHER “REMEMBER ME” CLIP – ROBERT PATTINSON PLAYS GAMES WITH EMILIE DE RAVIN

MTV News has gotten their hands on another exclusive clip from Robert Pattinson’s upcoming film, “Remember Me”.  In this scene, Robert Pattinson’s character tries to impress the girl by trying to win a giant panda in a carnival game.  He has an interesting technique – check it out in the clip.

The film opens in theaters on Friday, March 12.

KRISTEN STEWART, JOAN JETT, AND DAKOTA FANNING TO APPEAR ON JAY LENO

In the weeks leading up to the release of “The Runaways”, you will be able to see Joan Jett and her doppelganger, Kristen Stewart, doing plenty of press for the film.  The Jay Leno Show’s website reports that Joan, Kristen, and Dakota (who plays band member Cherie Currie) will all be making appearances on the show.

Catch Joan Jett and the Blackhearts on Tuesday, March 9.
Kristen will appear on Wednesday, March 10.
Dakota’s appearance will take place on Friday, March 12.

“THE TWILIGHT SAGA: ECLIPSE” – HAVE IT YOUR WAY

Burger King recently announced that they will sponsor the third installment of The Twilight Saga following their success with “The Twilight Saga: New Moon”.  Reuters.com reports:

Burger King said fans can expect more exclusive access but was quiet about details.  Last time around, Twihards got goodies such as Bella, Edward and Jacob-themed gift cards and New Moon water bottles.

SUMMIT ENTERTAINMENT SUED BY HAIRSTYLIST CASEY RAY

Remember the honest hairstylist in St. Louis who found the “New Moon” script in a trash can and returned it to Summit Entertainment?  Well, it turns out that she has filed suit against the studio for not allegedly not holding up their end of the deal after she returned the script to them.  Stltoday.com is reporting:

Ray’s suit alleges that the studio, Summit Entertainment LLC, hasn’t honored the written commitment it made to her when she returned the scripts for the “Twilight” sequel – “New Moon” — and for “Remember Me,” which has not yet been made.

According to Ray’s attorney, Albert S. Watkins, the suit filed in St. Louis County Circuit Court alleges that Summit agreed to provide Ray with two tickets to the premieres and after parties for the films. She attended the premiere and after party for “New Moon,” but then put the tickets for the “Remember Me” parties for sale on eBay.

Watkins says Summit asked her to take the tickets off of eBay, which she did, and then she arranged to sell them privately. Summit wasn’t happy with that either and allegedly told Ray that only she and a guest could attend. Watkins says the agreement between Ray and Summit specifically allows her to transfer the tickets to another party.

I think that there’s definitely truth to the statement that the “Twilight” fans have helped other projects featuring stars from the Saga.  Have you watched a movie or a show just because it had Rob, Kristen, or another Twilight star in it?  I’ll admit to it.  I doubt that I would have ever paid attention to “How to Be” if there hadn’t been such a fuss over the fact that Robert Pattinson was in it.  I watched “The Cake Eaters” and “In the Land of Women” because I wanted to see Kristen act in something other than “Twilight” to see more of her work.

I have to admit that I am getting highly irritated by the different DVD sets being offered.  It’s one thing to make things exclusive for the merchandise tie-in, but the differing content on the discs is driving me nuts.  It’s brilliant for Summit because they know that fans will end up buying more than one to get their hands on all of the content, driving their revenue even higher for the film.  However, it’s torture for cash-strapped fans who are dying to see the extended and deleted scenes.  I stand by what I said earlier in today’s post, I’m not banking that Borders has their hands on exclusive extended footage.  I’m inclined to think that it was just some word play to boost their pre-orders and sales on the 20th.

My take on the hairstylist suing Summit…they rewarded her for her honesty with the tickets and other things because she did not profit from finding the script.  She could have easily put it online and made a mint.  However, she did profit from the private sale of the tickets for the “Remember Me” events that they provided to her. Yes, Summit said that she could transfer the tickets to another person, but she SOLD them.  Granted, I don’t know exactly how Summit worded things with her and I’m making assumptions that their intent was that she could give them to someone, not sell them (seeing how they asked her to remove them from eBay).  Seeing how she profited in the end, I don’t believe that Summit owes her squat.
