‘True Blood’ Premiere Stakes It To The Competition

HBO handed off its Sunday nights from “Game of Thrones” to “True Blood” this week and didn’t miss a beat, as the Bayou vampire epic continued the network’s Sunday winning streak.

“True Blood” drew 5.2 million viewers in its season premiere – slightly down from last year, but still ahead of everything else on cable Sunday night.

In fact, “True Blood” came within 800,000 viewers of matching the audience for the Tony Awards show on broadcast network CBS.

It also drew another 1.1 million viewers for its repeat showing at 11 p.m. (NY Daily News) (Picture credit :Fanpop.com)

I think it’s great that True Blood did so great this past weekend.  Although, it’s really not that big of a surprise to me.  Yes, season 4 was dreadful with all the witches and magic, blah blah blah and the show completely ruined my favorite Sookie Stackhouse book (Dead to the World).  So why am I not surprised the show did well?  Because True Blood fans are loyal!!  Maybe we hope that the new season will be better (much like losing baseball teams there is always next year), maybe we like new cast members that were added such as Christopher Meloni, maybe we want to see just how far from the books the show will stray or maybe just maybe we’re hoping to see some naked hunks!!

And I don’t know about you, but I love the 8pm (central) time slot…gives me plenty of time to write up my recap and review!!
