Shaun Brannon is broken to the core. But even though Kelsey’s heart is cracking as she helps him carry the weight of his past, she can’t walk away from her promise to be there for him, and she can’t ignore her deepening feelings. So she tries to accept the little he’s offering, even though she wants it all. But after months of wrestling with her emotions, she decides she must risk losing him by asking for more than he’s prepared to give her.

Shaun won’t admit it, but he aches for more than Kelsey’s warm body in his bed. The problem is, something stands between them. The whole truth about what happened eight years ago. When Kelsey demands to have all of him or she’ll walk away, he knows the time has come to tell her the truth. But the fear of reliving the past is just as paralyzing as the thought of losing her.

Review:

WOW!!!!!  I have been reading books penned by Dori Lavelle (six in total now) over the last year…this book being my sixth, though only the second in this new series Learning to Live Again.   I have to say that I really liked all the prior 5 books but this one…I JUST LOVED, hence my first rating for Ms. Lavelle of “5”.  If only I could have given a “6”……

I read this book all in one sitting, I was unable to tear myself away and get some sleep.  It was worth it.  The raw emotion that is written for the two main characters is just phenomenal. What Shaun has had to live through is gut wrenching.

In some books, reading in the present and in flashback mode can be quite difficult.  I must say that the flow in this book was seamless and the timing was perfect.  Just as one wonders more about Shaun’s previous life, we get a snippet of that past.  As each tidbit is doled out, I really got to know Shaun and could feel his pain.  How does one get over all that he has to endure?  Obviously the title says it all…love.

Kelsey is one patient woman as well as honourable.  I was surprised however at what she found acceptable as a relationship with Shaun in the beginning.  What one does for love!  Kelsey has vowed to stand by Shaun and she is true to her word, though at times I wondered why since Shaun made it abundantly clear what his position was with respect to their relationship (friends with benefits only).  I am very happy she had such a good friend in Maeve.  When life was crashing around Kelsey, she had refuge and someone looking out after her!  I can’t imagine going through what Kelsey went through and not speaking with Shaun, but this is her cross to bear and her life to live.

The conclusion of the story was emotional, complete and satisfying.  A well written, gripping, moving, heartwarming, entertaining second book to this new series of Ms. Lavelle’s.  I HIGHLY recommend this series. If you are a fan of romance, you won’t be disappointed. I was temporarily emotionally drained by the roller coaster of a ride this story entails, but not disappointed.
