the_undercover_scoundrelSynopsis:

The author of The Millionaire Rogue returns to her dazzling series about a bygone era filled with romance, espionage, and one dangerously seductive diamond…

Mr. Henry Lake spent the past twelve years uncovering the most scandalous secrets of Europe’s wealthy and powerful, serving as one of His Majesty’s most decorated spies. But when a mission to find the legendary French Blue diamond brings him back to London, and face to face with a beautiful noblewoman he once loved, it’s his own hidden passions that are uncovered…

Lady Caroline, Countess of Berry, knows better than to lose her head over a man. After an embarrassing romantic entanglement forced her into a loveless marriage and early widowhood, she learned to never trust in desire, especially when it comes to the man who once broke her heart. Only, despite her good sense, she finds Henry impossible to resist—even when he once again places her in deathly danger…

Review:

Having read the Millionaire Rogue I was eager to read the Undercover Scoundrel and I was not disappointed. Again the story kept me turning pages and although I knew the underlying story it did not spoil the intrigue and suspense.

Lady Caroline was a mere 17 years old when she fell in love and secretly married Henry Lake. After a night of unbridled passion he disappeared the next day  breaking her heart and forcing her into a loveless marriage with Lake’s best friend. Now a widow she comes upon Lake again. She is determined that he will never break her heart again. But what she can’t resist is the chemistry between them. She has a secret that eventually comes out but can love prevail knowing their past? And knowing that danger is always lurking when Henry is around?

Henry Blake is a decorated spy who is now on a mission to recover the French Blue Diamond. The last person he wants to encounter is Caroline. When they do meet he finds her as enchanting and as beautiful as the young girl he left. As secrets are unveiled he knows that he still loves her but also knows the life he leads will constantly put her in danger . When the jewel is found and returned he finds that he will be retiring. His question is whether Caroline will have him and whether he will he get to explain why he left that fateful morning.

I do hope Jessica Peterson continues this series. I look forward to unraveling more of the character’s stories and how they played a part in the French Blue Diamond recovery.
