It’s been a few months since Ivy found David’s slingshot and saved the day and her sister! Jasmine and Ivy have been living at Costa’s house along with Ivy’s gargoyle, Brutus. However, she’s still hurt over how things ended with Adrian, especially since she hasn’t heard from him since. Maybe she didn’t mean as much to him as he did to her.
Imagine her surprise when Brutus shows up with Adrian riding on his back one day. Adrian is confident that he has beaten his destiny and that he won’t betray Ivy again. He will do anything to win her back. Zach has banned him from seeing Ivy all this time at the request of Jasmine. But now the realm walls are becoming too weak, the demon world now leaking out into the human realm. Zach was forced to lift Adrian’s ban so that he and Ivy can work together once again. They must find the staff of Moses and fortify the realm walls before it’s too late. However, knowing that she can barely handle the slingshot, the weakest of the hollowed objects, Ivy fears the staff very well may kill her. If working with Adrian doesn’t destroy her first that is!
I always enjoy reading Frost’s books. And, this book was okay, but not nearly as good as I was expecting. There seemed to be a lot going on and it just didn’t hold my interest as much as the first book, The Beautiful Ashes, did. And, I found Ivy obnoxious at times when she would put saving others before her own safety. I completely agreed with Adrian in this regard. I also found their timing to cash in on Adrian’s favor from Zach (and the activities it led to) to be a bit strange. I thought they were in a rush to find the staff after all.
We did get a glimpse of what to expect in the next and final book of the series, The Brightest Embers. No doubt Adrian is about to thoroughly piss off Ivy in his bid to keep her safe! I’m anxious to see how this whole series will end.
