Wagtail, Virginia, the top pet-friendly getaway in the United States, is gearing up for a howling good Halloween—until a spooky murder shakes the town to its core . . .

Holly Miller doesn’t believe in spirits, but the Sugar Maple Inn is filled with guests who do. The TV series in development, Apparition Apprehenders, has descended on Wagtail’s annual Halloween festivities to investigate supernatural local legends, and Holly has her hands full showing the ghosthunters a scary-fun time.

But the frights turn real when Holly’s Jack Russell, Trixie, and kitten, Twinkletoes, find a young woman drowned in the Wagtail Springs Hotel’s bathhouse—the spot of the town’s most infamous haunting. The crime scene is eerily similar to the creepy legend, convincing Holly that the death wasn’t just accidental. Now she’ll have to race to catch a flesh-and-blood killer—before someone else in town gives up the ghost . . .

Review:

Krista Davis’ second book in her Paws and Claws mystery series is a hit! She has created a pet owner’s Utopia in her series. Wagtail, Virginia is the place all pet owners dream of visiting. Reading about all the wonderful perks made available to visitors (2 and 4 legged) of the small town would be enough to keep me entertained. Yet Krista Davis brings her enticing pet delights to the reader in the form of an intriguing mystery that keeps you guessing right up to the end. It really is hard to talk about The Ghost and Mrs Mewer without mentioning the amazing town of Wagtail that caters to pets and their owners. From special meals that are appealing to both human and pet, enclosed terraces, cat walks in the cat wing, gps collars for all the pets, and wonderful rooms the Sugar Maple Inn offers it all. The whole town is geared to pets and their owners. Shops, Inns, and even the events all the town holds are inviting and open to all. There are even wonderful recipes included in this book for both human and pets.

This is the second installment of Krista Davis’ Paws and Claws Mystery series. This series is truly on of my favorites. The characters, town setting, pet pampering, and just all of it, are amazing and entertaining. Holly Miller has moved to Wagtail to help her oma (German for grandmother) run Sugar Maple Inn. Liesel Miller (oma) loves having Holly at the Inn and their relationship is another wonderful aspect of this series. Plus I had my own oma, so that is a great pull for me personally. The Inn’s whole crew is super. I would love to sit down for a professionally cooked meal with all of them (including the 4 legged members – Gingersnap-a golden and ambassador of the Inn, Trixie-a Jack Russell and Holly’s rescue  and also Twinkletoes-a calico kitten).

This installment is set at Halloween and the town is ready for their annual events. Apparition Apprehenders (a ghost hunting reality tv show) and crew have taken over the Inn. They have most of the rooms taken. They come to Wagtail to investigate ghostly legends the small town in known for. And to enjoy some of the Howloween festivities. Oma is elected interim mayor and is doubly busy. So Holly is handling a full plate. The ghost hunters also include their own debunker of their findings. Things really get scary when Holly and her 4 legged partners discover a body dressed like one of the haunting legends. With incredible writing, enjoyable characters and intelligent mysteries, Krista Davis gives us readers another entertaining cozy. The characters are well developed and the relationships are intriguing and fulfilling. Even the love triangle Holly is in does not read like a lot of cozies.

The Ghost and Mrs Mewer is an absolutely fabulous book. You really do not have to read the first in this series as Ms Davis does a good job of catching the reader up. I would suggest you do read it though as it was wonderful as well. This book is filled with amazing characters and the town is my dream place. I would recommend this book to any and all pet lovers, any cozy fans and anyone that loves a fun filled mystery. The recipes in the back look easy and tasty. It is so nice to see pet recipes included. But I would expect nothing less in this book that is set in the perfect town for any pet lover. The Ghost and Mrs Mewer has everything you could ask for in a cozy and adds in the dream town of every pet owner/lover.
