TV SHOW NEWS FOR JUNE 24TH: FUTURAMA, WALKING DEAD, AND DOCTOR WHO

Secrets of Futurama’s new season: who’s dead, who’s in love, and who’s robosexual

To celebrate Futurama’s return, creator David X. Cohen answered all our burning Futurama questions. How scandalous will the new cable version be? What’s happened with Fry and Leela, what’s a “robosexual,” and how will they make fun of Twitter? Spoilers.

Now that Futurama is on cable will there be a different tone? Are things going to get sexy or scandalous?

It’s pretty interesting actually. Obviously, Comedy Central has laxer standards as far as their broadcast standards compared to Fox. Then we face the question, do we want to cash in on that, or would it be a mistake to do that? My main priority definitely is to make these episodes feel like they are classic Futurama. And that they are the same series as you were seeing if you were a fan of the original episodes. I don’t want to stray too far, but we do push the envelope a little bit on a few episodes. Probably not beyond what we could have gotten away with before, but it would have required a bigger argument on Fox.

David X. Cohen on the New Season of Futurama (New Episode Spoilers!)

Tonight’s the night: Futurama returns with fresh episodes on Comedy Central, starting at 10 PM EST. Today, it’s executive producer David X. Cohen, who worked on The Simpsons before creating Futurama with Matt Groening more than a decade ago.

Cohen discusses how he went from scientist to comedy writer, the logic (or illogic) behind heads in jars, why things still don’t work in the 31st century, and how he sneaks math jokes into the show.

DM:When I talked to Billy [West], he mentioned that the writers are always trying to sneak in scientific references.  How much do you try to get that part of your background into the show? Are there specific things that you were glad you snuck in?

DXC: There are people with much better science resumes than me writing on it: We have a writer, Ken Keeler, who has a PhD in applied math, and in the past we’ve had two other PhDs working on the show: Bill Odenkirk with a PhD in chemistry, and Jeff Westbrook with a PhD in computer science. So, all of us have an agenda.

Another Shot of Zombie Perfection From ‘The Walking Dead’

via Bloody Disgusting

I know setting my hopes high typically leads to disappointment, but how can you deny that the first two official “zombie” pics from AMC’s The Walking Dead are nothing short of spectacular? In fact, I might go as far as to say these are some of the best zombies ever created. Eh?

With the pilot being directed by Frank Darabont, AMC plans an October premiere for the comic book adaptation that is set among a group of zombie survivors of an apocalypse who are led by a police officer, Rick Grimes (Andrew Lincoln), in search of a safe place to live.

NASA Finds Doctor Who-style Crack in Universe

If you’ve been following the current season of Doctor Who then you know all about the crack in space-time that has been following Amy and The Doctor around wherever they go, wiping out events and all memory of them.

So it’s a bit worrisome that NASA imaged the same thing on June 4th. That picture up top? That’s a huge tear in the Milky Way. According to NASA:

The snake-like object located about 11,000 light-years away in the constellation Sagittarius is actually the core of a thick, sooty cloud large enough to swallow dozens of solar systems and may be harboring beastly stars in the process of forming. [emphasis mine]

I cannot even explain how excited I am for 8pm tonight. If I had the choice, I’d be watching old Futurama all day in anticipation, but sadly, I have other things I have to do. The Walking Dead looks really good too. I’m not familiar with the comic, but it’s a zombie TV show! Of course I’ll watch! Continuing with my Futurama nerdiness vein…the Doctor Who rip looks like the one from Beast with a Billion Backs (the second Futurama dvd movie).

Are you excited for Futurama? What do you think of the Walking Dead photos? What do you think will happen on the season finale of Doctor Who?
