Ellie has lost everything in her life.  She lost both of her parents at a young age, and so her Uncle Peter moved to town to raise her.  Her first love was a boy that worked for her uncle, Alex Leto, and she lost both men on the same night.  Her uncle was murdered and Alex came to her that night to comfort her.  Alex finally gave into his desires that night, but was gone when Ellie woke in the morning.

Ellie finished school and became a cop, like her dad.  However, after a few years, she decided it wasn’t the life for her.  She picked up and moved to New York and became an investigative journalist, leaving the horrors of the town behind.

However, her Uncle Peter’s murder case has been reopened once it was discovered the person who confessed wasn’t in town on that night.  Ellie has come back to Laguna Cortez to find out who was responsible for his death and to hopefully get some closure over Alex as well.  Although she never expected the local billionaire philanthropist, Devlin Saint, to be none other than Alex!

I always enjoy Kenner’s books.  Always!  And, this one was no exception!  I felt it did have a slow build-up, but once it got started, I couldn’t put it down for long!

I, or course, loved Devlin!  He would do anything to protect Ellie, even walking away.  It’s that protectiveness of his that has him trying to push her away and get her back to New York, where she belongs!  Of course the heroines never quite do what the men in these books want!  And, for his sake it’s probably a good thing!

I found this book relevant with the things going on in our current society.  One of the things that Devlin has put a lot of money into is rescuing and rehabilitating victims of human trafficking.  That has become a huge issue in the real world recently so it was nice to see that tie between this work of fiction and real life.  Now, if only we had a billionaire to step up in our world like Devlin has in his!

However, Devlin is far from perfect.  He has plenty of skeletons in his closet.  One, in particular, could send Ellie running forever.

I enjoyed this book and I am excited to see that it appears it will be a long running series, much like Kenner’s Stark books (which I still need to read)!  The ending of this one has me salivating for the next book in the series, My Beautiful Sin!  I. CAN’T. WAIT!
