Ghost in the Shell to become a live-action movie

scifiwire.com: If you’re one of the people who saw the Wachowski brothers’ Matrix movies and thought, “Hey! They’re just ripping off Ghost in the Shell!”, have we got news for you: DreamWorks is developing a new, 3-D live-action version of the story, best known as the 1995 anime movie that was based on Masamune Shirow’s manga franchise.

Here’s how Variety reports it:

DreamWorks has tapped scribe Laeta Kalogridis [Shutter Island] to adapt the Japanese manga property “Ghost in the Shell.”DreamWorks is making the futuristic police thriller as a 3D live-action film.
Avi Arad, Ari Arad and Steven Paul of Seaside Entertainment are attached to produce and originally brought the project to DreamWorks.

The manga, first published in 1989, was one of the first cyberpunk-ish comic works that melded the concepts of cyborgs, police procedural and dystopian futuristic urban environments and influenced not only the Matrix movies but also lots of other sci-fi books, comics, films and video games.

This is so exciting! Ghost in the Shells one of my favorite animes, the plot is really good just like the design. The characters wrap you in their stories, finding out more about the shells and what they really are. Can’t wait to see what happens. Have you heard about Ghost in the Shell before? What do you think about an anime series becoming a live action movie?
