M. Night Shyamalan Teams Will Smith on Sci-Fi Flick ONE THOUSAND A.E.; Jaden Smith May Star
Writer/director M. Night Shyamalan may team up with Will Smith on his next movie venture. According to recent reports, the secretive director is collaborating with Smith’s Overbrook production company on a science fiction film titled One Thousand A.E. While nothing is concrete at the moment, Heat Vision states that the project is being developed as a starring vehicle for Smith’s son Jaden, last seen in The Karate Kid remake earlier this year. No word on whether Big Willie will figure in the film — suffice to say the last time he and Jaden teamed up, they created a little masterpiece entitled The Pursuit of Happyness.
A Peek at The Hunger Games Script
Spoiler: It’s shaping up to be a PG-13 experience. The story features a battle royale between teenage players and the idea of minors acting out such violence is a concern. In fact, when you order the pictured box set the product description does say “Ages 12+.”
“‘It’s always going to be an intense subject matter, but you can tell the story with some restraint,’ said producer Nina Jacobson in the Entertainment Weekly article. ‘The only people these books are not for are those under 12. The movie will be the same.’”
Universal Adapting Cate Tiernan’s Witch Fantasy Series ‘Sweep’
Yet another contender to fill the void that will be left upon the conclusion of The Twilight Saga has entered the ring. Variety reports Universal has picked up rights to Cate Tiernan’s young adult fantasy series Sweep. Robert Nelson Jacobs will script the adaptation of the story (which spans 15 books) following a 16-year-old girl who discovers she’s a blood witch, descended from an ancient and powerful line. Ultimately, she must decide whether to use her powers for good or evil. While every young adult series will undoubtedly be linked back to Twilight, the first book starts in an eerily familiar way for those who know the teen vampire novels.
I am not a fan of M Night Shyamalan to say the least. I’ve been disappointed in his movies lately.
But I am so excited to hear about The Sweep series being adapted. I fell in love with that series earlier this year. I’ve recommended it to a few friends and all of them have loved it too. Have you read Cate Tiernan’s Sweep or Balefire series?
