THE RISE AND FALL OF TEEN HORROR MOVIES

In the beloved — OK, beloved by some — 1948 comedy-horror hybrid “Abbott and Costello Meet Frankenstein,” the hapless lycanthrope Larry Talbot (Lon Chaney Jr., who did hapless better than he likely wanted to) tries to explain his condition to the skeptics played by the film’s titular comic team. “I know you think I’m crazy,” he bleats, “but in half an hour the moon will rise, and I’ll turn into a wolf.”

“You and 20 million other guys,” says Lou Costello’s Wilbur with a smirk.

That’s the sort of thing that constituted — some might say “passed for” — knowing adult humor in popular entertainment those days. Less than a decade later, after Sinatra’s bobby-soxers brought the notion of adolescent hormonal activity into the mainstream, a movie calling itself “I Was a Teenage Werewolf” was hardly a surprise.

SAM ROCKWELL IS ADDED TO LIST OF ACTORS IN COWBOYS & ALIENS

Sam Rockwell has joined Jon Favreau’s Cowboys And Aliens comic book adaptation — making this movie possibly the geekiest undertaking happening right now, thanks to a cast that also includes Harrison Ford, Daniel Craig and Olivia Wilde.

Rockwell, who is getting lots of great attention for his role as Justin Hammer in Iron Man 2, joins the cast as Doc, a local bar owner.

According to Hollywood Reporter: Once Favreau and the writers — Alex Kurtzman, Roberto Orci and Damon Lindelof — learned that Rockwell was interested in the movie, they reconceived and expanded the role, which initially called for a heavy-set man.

I want to see Cowboys and Aliens just for the cast, who cares about the story line. Wow was mixture of talent.
