There is a lot to look at in “The Secret of Kells.” Nearly every frame of this 75-minute animated feature is dense with curlicued and cross-hatched patterns and figures. Your eye travels over Celtic crosses and through forest glades, studies architectural schematics and drinks in delicately washed landscapes. The human characters come in a variety of shapes and hues. Some are cute, some are sinister, some angular, some roly-poly. A few resemble science-fiction robots, while others look like pixies out of Japanese anime.

CHINESE WRITER PLANS TO SUE AVATAR DIRECTOR

Zhou Shaomou told the China Daily he spent seven years writing the 1.2 million word book.

“Eighty percent of the plot and the key elements of Avatar are similar to my 1997 science fiction novel Tale Of The Blue Crows,” said Zhou.

It tells the story of an epic journey taken by six astronauts to a distant planet which is home to a race of blue-skinned beings.

SHERLOCK DIRECTOR TO TURN KING ARTHUR INTO STAR WARS

Here’s an intriguing rumor: Guy Ritchie, the former Mr. Madonna who directed the action hit Sherlock Holmes, is supposedly attached to direct a new version of Excalibur, the King Arthur story, “in the tone of Star Wars.”

I think I’m a bit numb about the possible new version of Excalibur. I love the Arthurian Legend – and I like retellings of it. But, I loved John Boorman’s movie, and make no secret of loving BBC’s Merlin. I don’t know if I could take another retelling. And, in a Star Wars tone? What does that mean?  Of course this is all just speculation at the moment, and it is Guy Ritchie. What do you all think?
