YAY! My first thought, honestly, was “Merlin, the boy on FIRE!” but, I kind of like the idea of Merlin burning through the four other main characters. Merlin still doesn’t have a new outfit, but again, that’s sort of a symbol of Merlin’s status in this show I guess, like the Merlin of legend has been made an icon with his long white beard and pointy blue and white starred hat.  Arthur is in his traditional pose, as is Gaius (oh Gaius, I wonder what the ‘die’ has in stall for you this season?).

The focal points in this poster are definitely the girls, for me. Morgana, looking powerful, with a teeny dragon perched on her head (a nod to how she survived season 4, maybe?). And, Gwen. Oh , Gwen. I think Angel Coulby looks BEAUTIFUL, here, but quite aloof and untouchable. An entitled beauty seems to be exuding from her here, and it makes me pine for the Gwen of season 1. The sweet, innocent, slightly awkward Gwen who spoke up against injustice – even when she really had no leg to stand on. The Gwen here reminds me of Guinevere of the Arthurian Legend, and; as I’ve said time and time again, I’ve never liked her. I’m of two minds about this – I have always been an advocate of Merlin following the legends – but I don’t want to lose my sweet, lovely Gwen. Only time will tell how the BBC will tackle this!

I’m not too sure what to make of the background. At first I thought it could be Tintagel – but then I realised there was no water around – boo 🙁

So, that’s my two cents! Stay tuned for more Merlin stuff in anticipation for S5, and also check back at BBC Merlin for news!
