Does the name Richelle Mead ring any bells? How about Vampire Academy? Here’s a crash course: Richelle is the brain behind the NY Times Bestselling books hailed as “the series to fill the void” for Twilight fans everywhere. According to USA Today, it’s also the answer to the question “You’ve raced through Stephenie Meyer’s Twilight. Now what?” Or, as Mead says, “it’s the Harry Potter generation growing up and wanting a more sophisticated, edgier kind of world.” As a fantasy lover, it didn’t take long for them to appear in a stack on my desk. But if you’re still not sold, just check out the series’s description, as posted on Richelle’s site:
Two races of vampires walk our world. One, the Moroi, are alive and wield elemental magic. The other, the Strigoi, are undead and evil–feeding on the innocent to survive. Rose Hathaway–a half-vampire with poor impulse control–is training to be a bodyguard for a Moroi princess. Learning to decapitate and stake is hard enough, but Rose’s real danger may lie in an illicit romance with one of her instructors…
With over 1.5 million copies already in print, Vampire Academy, Frostbite, and Shadow Kiss have already topped the charts – and it’s time for the highly anticipated release of the fourth installment, Blood Promise. Coincidentally, it’s also time for Bay Area vampire enthusiasts to get very, very lucky. Richelle will be making an in-person appearance at Books, Inc. in Palo Alto this coming Thursday, courtesy of the group Not Your Mother’s Book Club. Available for pictures, and of course autographs, it’s almost as good as meeting the undead…and much less bloody. Find details below!
