Summary: Lindsey

Witness to her brother’s brutal death when she was only ten years old, Lindsey has learned to cry silently and alone. Now in her twenties, the death of her parents leaves her grappling with questions of the past and forgiveness.

Review:

A very poignant short story.  The reader is walked through Lindsey’s life story as she slowly makes her way up the mountain to spread the ashes of her mother and father.  The narrative describing the trail and her walk was so well done, I thought I was on the walk with Lindsey.

I found Lindsey’s life story sad.  I was content in the end when Lindsey had managed to overcome her upbringing and show her humanity…as can be seen when she spreads the ashes:

Lindsey decided to take her parents’ ashes to the woods and scatter them in the only place she’d ever found solace.  She hoped that in doing this, somehow the spirits of her parents would be released from the prison they’d created for themselves and finally find peace.”

A story well worth reading if you have a spare 30 minutes (or less, depending upon the speed with which you read.).
