Summary:

Since tragedy estranged defense attorney Jenna Macintosh from her family, she’s done her best to pretend Christmas doesn’t exist. Not so easy this year when she needs to work with client Lacey Gallagher, who is living on her brother Sawyer’s Christmas tree farm. All those fragrant pines dripping with twinkling lights are bad enough, but when disaster strikes, Jenna is stuck alone in a wooded cabin with Sawyer, the hottest man she’s ever met.

Experience has taught Sawyer Gallagher that smart city women like Jenna don’t want men like him, but when Jenna falls ill, he must abandon his plan to keep his distance and soon he’s trying to work out ways to make her his—and not just for Christmas. (Goodreads)

Review:

His Christmas Gift is a delightful, light romance penned by Sarah Mayberry. As this is a new author to me and it was a shorter than average read, I entered my reading journey with some trepidation as I am not usually a fan of shorter reads. Well, Ms. Mayberry alleviated my fears by writing an engaging, romantic story which maintained my interest throughout.

Jenna Macintosh is the self assured, hard working legal counsel for Lacey Gallagher. While bringing Lacey home after three years in prison for a crime she did not commit, Jenna drives Lacey to her family’s Christmas tree farm, where lo and behold Lacey’s brother, Sawyer is working hard. Lets just say – Jenna takes note of his physique (very hot) and his gruff personality!

As a result of an accident in which Sawyer is injured, Jenna ends up assisting the family and then gets stuck at the farm as a result of chickenpox!

What ensues of course is that Jenna discovers deeper layers to Sawyer and of course, Sawyer does the same with Jenna.  I really enjoyed this slow (well – as slow as it can be in such a short read) burn where they got to know each other at least a bit before hopping into bed. The intimate scenes were well written, with just the right amount of hotness for my tastes. And there definitely were chuckle worthy moments ☺

Apart from the sexual part of this story, there are also a couple of sub-storyline with some depth. Jenna is estranged from her family and learning how and why this came about (as Sawyer did) truly left me heartbroken for Jenna. Additionally, there is certainly some family drama between Sawyer and Lacey, which finally was aired and dealt with.

Any more depth in this review would leave you, the reader, very little to discover for yourself. Suffice it to say, I enjoyed this quick, easy Christmas time read and will more than likely seek out this author in the future.
