harvest-at-mustang-ridge-jesse-hayworthHarvest At Mustang Ridge by Jesse Hayworth is a great book.  It’s a story about rekindled love, family ties, romance and even some animals.

Krista Skye’s family owns Mustang Ridge Ranch. Besides the day to day operations of the ranch, Krista is trying to break in a mustang and get the horse ready to compete in the Harvest Fair Mustang Makeover.  This is a competition that Krista wants to win so that she can take the prize money and put it back into the ranch.  The head wrangler of the ranch gets injured and Krista needs to find a replacement.  The best person for the job is Wyatt Webb, who broke her heart by leaving her 8 years ago.

Wyatt Webb left Krista because he couldn’t handle being tied down to one person.  His childhood was such that he had to become the man of the house at a too early age.  His father was never around very much and he had to help his mother and sister.  He feels like his father’s wandering has molded him into being a person that has to keep moving and not stay in one place too long.   He has returned to the area to try to get his creative juices flowing again.  He’s a metal sculptor now that is having a creative block and he thinks returning to his roots will help him.  When Krista asks for his help, Wyatt cannot say no.  What follows is a heartwarming tale of forgiveness, renewed love and fulfilled dreams.

The characters are well developed, realistic and well rounded..  They display the same human traits that we all have, such as jealousy, forgiveness, and longing, just to name a few.  The characters feel like friends and family and they are the type of people you would like to hang out with.  You begin to care about them and want to see them happy.   The secondary characters are as well developed as the main characters and they add a lot to the story.  Even the animals have personalities.  Klepto is an adorable dog who not only steals your heart but also anything he can sink his teeth into.  Jupiter is the wild mustang and you can just picture his skittishness, strength and agility.

The writing style flows easily and the book is an easy read.  The descriptive writing, whether talking about the characters or setting adds something extra special to the book.  Many times I felt like I was right there on the ranch, being part of the action.

I think the thing I like best about the book is the family closeness.  Three generations of Skyes live on the ranch and family is very important to Krista.  They are willing to help each other out with any problem that may arise.  Wyatt’s childhood could not have been more different but after spending time with Krista and her family, he realizes he wants to belong to this close-knit loving family.

I would recommend this book to anyone who enjoys a book that is the perfect blend of romance, friendship, and family.  It’s definitely a romance book but it’s so much more than that.  After researching the author, I see that she has other Mustang Ridge books to read.  I’m very excited about that because now I can keep in touch with my friends at Mustang Ridge.
