Open Book Society wants to congratulate the fictional character Severus Snape to his birthday!
Professor Snape was born January 9th, 1960 and died May 2nd, 1998 during ‘The Battle of Hogwarts’. Over the course of the ‘Harry Potter’ book series, written by J.K. Rowling, his portrayal evolves from that of a malicious and partisan teacher, to that of a pivotal character of considerable complexity and moral ambiguity.
Professor Snape, who is also known as the ‘Half-blood Prince’, teaches Potions at Hogwarts, later becomes the Defence Against the Dark Arts teacher, and in the final novel he becomes the Headmaster of Hogwarts. Severus Snape played an important role in the war against Voldemort, though he did so covertly and at great personal risk. At the end he is the real heroe …
