The black holes are popping up all over Dublin. They’re growing larger and larger with everything they are able to suck into themselves. The Earth is dying and there are mere months to find a way to save it. The key appears to be to find the Fae’s Song of Making, but with the Unseelie King being absent it seems to be an impossible task.
And, if that wasn’t bad enough, Mac has unleashed a powerful evil onto this world. When she opened the Sinsar Dubh inside herself to save Dani, it unlocked the sinister book’s power. It was waiting for this moment, when it could take over Mac’s body. Now she is being possessed by an unthinkable malevolence that wants to maim and destroy. And, it will start with those that she loves the most. If only just to show her it can. However, Dani tricked the book. She took the sword from Mac and it’s unable to kill the Unseelie Princes. All it can do is cocoon them to destroy later, and it will. In the meantime, humans are easy enough to dispatch, especially those close to Mac.
Some would think that Mac needs to be destroyed to kill this evil. However, Barrons will never give up on her. He will help her fight this malevolence until they can finally overcome it. And, he will protect her from those wanting to destroy her.
And, when Mac finally finds a way to separate herself from the book, it leaves the book with an even larger ax to grind.
Then, the Fae Queen gives Mac the True Magic of the Fae race, Mac begins the transformation of turning into the next Fae Queen. A truth that incites Cruce. All he has ever wanted to do was lead his people, and the Queen dared to give it to a human!?! Now, Mac must learn to use her new powers at lightning speed, but the only one that could help her is scheming to get the power for himself.
Dancer is working non-stop to help find the Song of Making. Mac finds half of it, but how is one to re-create half of someone else’s work without ever having heard it?
Time is ticking away quickly and our heroes are running out of time to save this world. Will they figure out the song before it’s too late?
I haven’t read this series in EIGHT FREAKING YEARS!! I kept thinking about this series lately though and decided I needed to delve back in. I had so much to refresh my mind on. Thank goodness for the glossary, although I still wish it was in alphabetical order! I also decided to get COVID while reading this so it took me longer than usual to read it, nearly a month. However, I am glad I read it. It was surprisingly easy to get back into. The book had a good pace and it was fairly easy to get immersed into the story once again.
Unlikely allies had to work together for the greater good. And, Per the synopsis this is the ‘epic conclusion’ to the series and I’m unsure why this was ever written as the conclusion with that ending had so many loose ends still flapping in the wind. At the time of writing this, there are two more books to read. And I intend to read them soon and not wait eight more years.
I have to admit that I do really enjoy Cruce, pure evil or not. I enjoy him and kind of understand where he’s coming from.
And, with the end of the world looming in this book, we finally get some more sexy times with Mac and Barrons again, boom chocka locka. That was something I definitely missed in the last book. There was nothing too detailed or graphic, just enough to let you know it happened.
“Sun, moon, and stars, I told him.
He inclined his head. Of all the years, this one with you has been my finest. Fire to my ice, Mac.
Frost to my flame, Jericho.
Forever, we said, and it was a vow far more powerful and binding than any ring or piece of paper.”
My heart broke for Dani in this book as well, even though I knew the exact moment that heartbreak was coming, when it happened. She has grown so much and I can’t wait to see how things play out for her. I also grew a new appreciation for Ryodan and I want to ‘see’ more! I would also hope to see Christian find his place and find true happiness. He was always one of my favorites.
Overall, this was a really nice read and it welcomed me back into the fold of the series after such a long hiatus. Thank you for that, Karen! Until we meet again …
