Tilly Greenway, may seem like your ordinary twelve year old girl. She lives with her father, Michael, who owns a magazine dedicated to unveil alien theories and conspiracies, Meg her stepmother and Zack, her stepbrother in the usually cloudy London.
The only thing that makes Tilly different from the rest is the fact that sometimes her dreams come true. She predicted the fall of a tree on her father’s car and the answers to her brother’s exam. But one day an unusual dream comes to her with several voices repeating the same question on and on. Who watches the watchers? This is what Tilly has to find out.
I ventured into reading this book without knowing what to expect, just guiding myself by the title. Don’t readers do that sometimes? Well, it turned out to be really interesting once I started to read it. I’m a very imaginative person and when something catches my attention and starts to form itself in my head, it means it’s really good.
The prologue starts off with a very different vibe than what the first chapter starts narrating; it makes you feel as if you’re reading a fantasy story filled with witches and magic and then the ordinary life of a young girl begins to unveil itself, nothing special or magical. It keeps you wondering what happened to the first character you read about and when will Tilly find him. If, that is the matter.
Don’t be frightened by the amount of chapters shown at the contents page, you’ll find out that they are short and easy to read. And for those that need help picturing certain points of the story, the book provides an amount of illustrations in a beautiful pointillism technique (if it can be call like that) by artist Meraylah Allwood.
Tilly’s dreams serve as a guide of to what to expect and look forward as the story develops, which I just found really interesting since I have always found the subject of visions in dreams very fascinating. One character that I really didn’t like since the beginning was Cordelia Leer, but she has her reason. Another that was making me uneasy for some reason was Zack, but I guess that was just because his love for ketchup was really big.
If it’s a rainy day, then I recommend this book, you’ll know what I mean once you start. It’ll serve for a better atmosphere for the plot, that it’ll even make you question whether or not this was planned. If mythical creatures, fantasy stories, secrets and sci-fi are your thing, then this is the book for you. Enjoy!
